I love the NFL draft- always have... ever since I was a kid.

A few years back my wife's grandmom died during the week of the draft- the year they took Bunkley in the first round- and the funeral was the day of the draft so I missed a good chunk of the first day.

This year her grandpop turned 90, lived a good long life but wasn't doing so well over the past few months or so. Hospice said he had another 1-2 weeks to live yesterday but he died this morning. Sure enough the funeral is on Saturday.

So it looks like I'm going to miss at least the first round again this year. Don't get me wrong. I'm a selfish prick but I'm not THAT much of a selfish prick. I guess I'm just used to there being a 4 or 5 day waiting period before the actual funeral- like send out an obit, mourn for a couple of days, give people time for travel arrangements, go to the cleaners, whatever. They're doing everything in less than 48 hours. I mean were they pumping embalming fluid into his IV or something?

Not much.

Really looking forward to this weekend. Should be a shit show. A couple of my roommate's friends are coming down, and with the Flyers on a 3 and the draft on at 4 and Phils at 7 Saturday is going to be absurd even before we get to a bar.

Making up for your failings on Monday?

a) This place is slow tonight. Really slow.

b) If the Caps come back and the Devs get through, I wonder how much shitty seats at Verizon are on StubHub/Craigslist. I'll have to go to at least one. Would be a lot of fun. I went to a Caps/Flyers playoff game last year for $35 before this town went nuts for the Caps. If I could pull it off for less than $75 or so, it'd be a worthwhile afternoon/night out.

Not that I am a dedicated viewer or anything but when I have watched Jimmy Fallon actually seems to be doing a good job. Funny moments. I was expecting him to be like Carson Daly or something but he might not end up being too bad.
Do it again!

Cyclists are the best people to patch up. Female rider with the road club comes up to me at the end of a race last night, asks if I can take a look at her knee which has blood running all the way down to her ankle.

"Damn," sez I, "I didn't even see you come off."

"oh it was at the start of the race and I was first wheel, so I just got back on my bike".

Turned out the impressive streaks of blood had all dried out, and other than putting a dressing on her knee (which was probably superfluous at that point, given that the blood had congealed nicely and held up to an hours worth of peddling). I gently probe the injury in case there's any gravel trapped under the skin, with the usual caveat of "oh, this might hurt" to which she says "No it's fine, I have a very high pain threshhold". Really?

And the guy who broke his finger was so damn calm I was convinced it was only dislocated. Adrenaline fucking rules.

I know what you're asking yourself and the answer is yes. I have a nick name for my penis. Its called the Octagon, but I also nick named my testes - my left one is James Westfall and my right one is Doctor Kenneth Noisewater.

On a whim, on the way home, I bought a 30-pack of Bud for $24. The clerk handed me an $8 rebate form, and then I went to Genuardi's to turn in a bag of coins, which amounted to $16. These are the days I cherish
