Phillies vs Dodgers: NLCS Discussion

Postby Marion » Mon Oct 06, 2008 13:38:21

The Phillies were blasting that song in the clubhouse yesterday after the win. Brett Myers (iirc) was giving a radio interview and it sounded like he was the background noise rather than the song.
"I tell all kids not to use that word. If they're 29 and they win the World Series, I think they can say that.
But I definitely would say to all the kids out there, 'Kids, it's a bad word. Don't say it. And I'm dead serious.' "

I'm almost embarrassed over how much I like that song. But that video just cracks me up.

Key Dodgers pitchers, career #s against the Phillies:

Derek Lowe: 11 G, 7 GS; 4-1, 2 SV, 50.2 IP, 46 hits, 10 BB, 23 K, 21 R/17 ER, 3.02 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, .237 BAA

Chad Billingsley: 3 G/GS, 1-1, 18 IP, 18 hits, 11 BB, 14 K, 8 R/ER, 4.00 ERA, 1.61 WHIP, .269 BAA

Hiroki Kuroda: 2 G/GS, 1-0, 13 IP, 4 hits, 2 BB, 12 K, 2 R/ER, 1.38 ERA, 0.46 WHIP, .095 BAA

Jonathan Broxton: 11 G, 1-0, 1 SV, 11.2 IP, 11 hits, 6 BB, 18 K, 6 R/ER, 4.63 ERA, 1.46 WHIP, .239 BAA

Not sure what any of this tells us, other than that the two young guys might walk our hitters if they're patient.

When you give Philly fans something to be thrilled about, and something to be enraged about on the same day, you will almost always hear the rage.

you sure do seem to have a lot of time on your hands to be on this forum? Do you have a job? Are you a shut-in?

To be fair, it's possible to live in Philadelphia and be significantly more of a Phillies or Eagles fan, which would have skewed your emotional state this morning. I'm pretty well stoked, but this is very much a football town.

There's something profoundly wrong with people who let an Eagles loss damper their excitement about the Phillies.

David Murphy wrote that Friday's game is likely for 4:15 pm. Have LCS games sometimes been in the afternoon? I thought once you got to this round they were pretty much all at night.

I just don't know what to think. People have levels of love for each team individually. If you love one more you are going to have different emotions.

i understand what you're saying, but i'm getting very disgusted with the current level of eagles attention being paid right now. i roll my eyes when i hear random people talking saturday and sunday morning about "the game" that day. i like the eagles and all, but this city has gone 25 years w/o a championship. if people are actually as upset about that as they say they are, then those same people really should be paying more attention to the phillies-- the phillies odds of winning a championship in the near future are twice as high now than as if they lost sunday. the eagles' odds barely moved. that game was not as important if your real goal is the city getting a championship.

i feel like people are slow to warm to the phillies specifically because they were in last place for so much of the late 80s and 90s-- especially because the phillies were bad for so long after the strike-- and i find that to be irrational. the fact that the eagles were above average but not championship calibur during that time frame shouldn't impact things. i almost feel like i have to tell philadelphians who aren't paying much attention "oh the phillies are good now" "yes they have actually been good for several years" "no, they haven't been under .500 in 7 years". people just hate on the phillies so much in this town and it angers me most because i know that cities with smaller populations like boston have higher demand for their games and higher ticket prices, higher tv revenues, higher payrolls, and more championships. it's ridiculous. i'm getting to a point where i almost root against the eagles when i'm not actually watching the game because i want the city to pay more attention to the phillies. i like the eagles enough that i can't root against them when i watch, but playoff baseball is just way more important than week 5 football unless you just don't care about baseball, which is often for stupid reasons.

Yeah, my dong-licking boss is a Giants fan and he came in with a HUGE crap eating grin on his face today and did his whole "go Birds" mocking that he does every time the Birds lose a heartbreaker (sadly, this happens way too frequently). Today, he wanted to get my goat and I told him that it didn't really bother me, cause I was too jacked about the Phils. Then I asked how the Yankees series was going.

Then I had to listen to my office mate (a total Negadelphian) bitch about Reid for the next 15 minutes. I just nodded and tried to shift the talk to the Phils.

That's really sad. I have to admit, I'm surprised. 3 to 1? Man, I had no idea.
