milton bernard thompson wrote:people just aren't listening to what i'm saying. dude wants to call me out for saying NO ONE IN PHILLY CARES, when i clearly said THE MAJORITY doesn't care. this should be pretty obvious. i love the phillies more than anyone else in this city, but for every diehard phillies fan i know there are 20 diehard eagles fans. nearly everyone at least kind of cares about the eagles, and a lot of people pay no attention whatsoever to the phillies. this is just reality, you guys must live in a different city than me.

my only point is that it's not surprising, given the way people love their eagles in this city, that a regular season game outdoes a phillies playoff game. i personally am not a big sixers fan and went to at least 2 phillies games this season during sixers playoff games without giving it a second thought. most eagles fans would be considerably more inclined to do such a thing.

Your experience is vastly different from mine then. Yes, I would agree that (1) most people root for the Eagles before any other team and (2) most people "care" about the Eagles on some level, which is more than other local teams can say. And I'd agree that there are far more "diehard" Eagles fans than "diehard" Phillies fans.

Where I think you are wrong is in saying that THE MAJORITY of Philadelphia area folks don't care about the Phillies. From my experience, ONLY SMALL NUMBER of Philadelphians don't care at all about the Phillies. Many are very casual about the Phils or have them as their 3rd or 4th favorite team or are simply bandwagoners that only care when the team is good. Many don't go to many/any regular season games or watch on TV. But I think it's a stretch to extrapolate that the majority of folks don't care .

Yeah, in the mid to late 90's, there were a lot of folks who wouldn't give the Phillies a half a second thought. Winning changes attitudes.

YMMV, but I don't get the same feel in the city that you do.

I can't believe I might miss the first few pitches on Thursday's game. However, the reason is I'll be at a cocktail party for Mrs. Vulture's work, so I'll be pretty drunk when I get here. I wonder if I can convince the people hosting the party to put the game on....

Really? they did that? fucking deadly.

Also, I'm glad this thread is back on topic. I wasn't enjoying wading through 4 pages of phils vs eagles. If like me you can't bring tha thorough statistical analysis, I want careful consideration of which particular theme will fuel my invective laden posts when the dodgers fans start getting on my tits and they're up 2-0 against cole. In game one. during the second inning.

:ce:

p.s. Yes, Wiz, and I can't think of a better song for the team. That song's got a sick beat, and with the Roots being from Philly, I can't think of a better song.

p.p.s. I'm drunk; sorry for the repetition.

I think the phils givin' a serious nod to the roots would blow my philly-lovin mind. Also, you're a bad man as you prompted me to go onto the okayplayer website, and now I'm drooling over some cool new t-shirt designs. And gettin' monkeywiz some of those roots romper suits.

Incidentally, those numbers are apparently off per the Daily News:

In the television battle Sunday, the Eagles game on Fox drew a 22.7 rating and the Phillies game on TBS posted a 13.8 rating.
One ratings point equals 29,728 households in the Philadelphia market, so about 674,000 households were tuned to the Eagles compared to about 410,000 for the Phillies.

Those numbers seem much more believable to me that the 3:1 ratio previously reported.

Cable vs Network should be taken into account. There aren't equal starting points.

Hmmm. That's definitely what I heard on the voice box- they made a pretty big deal out of the disparity. I searched for something on KYW1060DOTCOM, but could find no corroborating evidence. Their website is weak when it comes to sports- mostly links to the generic CBS sports site.

Considering that the games probably won't start on time (allowing us more time with the stupendous mediocrity of Jeannie Zolasko and Kevin Kennedy) and that post-season games tend to be slowly played anyway, I would doubt that any finish prior to midnight.
