Phillies vs Dodgers: NLCS Discussion

No, I believe they say 8:22 because that's when the first pitch will be thrown. The broadcast will start at 8:00 for all the werthless (sic) hubub. It's a finely orchestrated mess.

Apparently TBS only needs 7 minutes for their nonsense
"I tell all kids not to use that word. If they're 29 and they win the World Series, I think they can say that.
But I definitely would say to all the kids out there, 'Kids, it's a bad word. Don't say it. And I'm dead serious.' "

I think 8:22 means first pitch.

Understood. What I'm saying is I doubt the first pitch will be thrown on time.

One thing I noticed with TBS telecasts as compared to Comcast: The between-inning commercial breaks are much, much longer. God knows what FOX is going to do with theirs, seeing as they're on network TV and are slaves to advertising. Expect Hamels to have to come out in the 3rd inning from having his arm get cold during the breaks.

The between innings breaks for playoff games is longer than for regular season games by rule. If Comcast broadcast the playoffs, they'd have the same longer breaks. I assume TBS and Fox are subject to the same rules, so their breaks should be the same.

Eagles- 900,000

Incidentally, those numbers are apparently off per the Daily News:

In the television battle Sunday, the Eagles game on Fox drew a 22.7 rating and the Phillies game on TBS posted a 13.8 rating.
One ratings point equals 29,728 households in the Philadelphia market, so about 674,000 households were tuned to the Eagles compared to about 410,000 for the Phillies.

Those numbers seem much more believable to me that the 3:1 ratio previously reported.

Cable vs Network should be taken into account. There aren't equal starting points.

Hmmm. That's definitely what I heard on the voice box- they made a pretty big deal out of the disparity. I searched for something on KYW1060DOTCOM, but could find no corroborating evidence. Their website is weak when it comes to sports- mostly links to the generic CBS sports site.

To muddy the waters even more, the Inquirer reports 687,000 for the Eagles and 383,000 for the Phillies. I watched about 85% Phillies and 15% Eagles, so I don't know how I would have been counted. Probably the big winner was the Pulaski Day parade on channel 6, which on my cable system was right between the two games. I woldn't have caught a minute of it otherwise, but Sunday I did, although in 30 two second chunks.

All very interesting stuff. I wish Kuo weren't active. Torre now has three lefties to torment Utley and Howard. Sure do wish Charlie would split them up in the order to force Torre's hand late in the game (and maybe get Werth some more AB's against lefties), but I guess it's just too logical.

Actually, Kershaw's best pitch is his 12-6 power curve. His change is his weakest, without question.

I may kill someone if, after Burrell's game 4 performance, he or Werth aren't between Utley and Howard.

Maybe they can dig up Charlie Hudson to throw out a first pitch at one of the home games?

I'll always remember hudson fondly for that '83 playoff game, especially when Hudson k'd Greg Brock with some rising heat.

I happened to be in LA on business for the first 2 games of the '83 NLCS and managed to score tickets to both games (only times ever at Dodger stadium for me). I'll never forget the first game. I had never driven to Dodger Stadium before and got caught in some traffic. When I arrived and was walking through the parking lot to get into the stadium, I heard a burst of crowd noise. It was the top of the 1st inning and Schmidt hit a HR for the only run of the game. So I missed all the scoring!

Yep, it was a shot to dead center - good stuff.

i think charlie believes if utley and howard arent next to eachother - they'll never knock lowe out. he'll go nine, and we'll never see the bullpen.
