Phillies vs Dodgers: NLCS Discussion

Without leveraging it against the popularity of the football team, rest assured that the city is pumped. Even the buildings are suiced.

I have no doubt that a Phillies World Series Victory will result in utter and complete insanity.

I was on the Mainline when Villanova won the NCAA in 1985.

That's hilarious. I didn't even know that the Eagles had lost as I missed the end of the game cause ya know, there was a series clinching playoff game going on. I get that people love football and all, but c'mon it was the 5th game of the regular season. The other thing I don't get is yeah, the Phillies historically suck, and I love the Eagles, but what have they done to be so focused in so many fans' minds? We're two years away from it being 50 years since the last NFL championship for the Eagles.

I like the Phillies more than the Eagles, but if the Eagles were playing a playoff game and won, I sure as hell wouldn't care if the Phillies lost a regular season game the same day (even though that's not possible)

I'm not gonna say parts of baseball games aren't boring, but football games can be boring as shit esp if the two teams playing aren't good at offense or when one team has a big lead, they just run out the clock. One thing that has turned me off football recently is the commercial breaks are just too outrageous. You don't need to go to a commercial break after a 20 second kickoff.

To me it's really as simple as PLAYOFF >>>> NON-PLAYOFF. This isn't 162 games vs. 16 games; it's 5 games vs. 16.

Add in all the time we've, let's say invested, in the Phillies this year and previously, and how rarely that time has been rewarded with real success, and I don't find it a very close call.

(That said, I had both on, until my internet connection for the Eagles conked out. But I had the sound up on the Phils--quite a tribute, given that it was basically listening to the Brewers fan club calling it.)

we don't really have one, but i would like to take this moment to appreciate the Phillies for using The Roots' "Here I Come" as the song they take the field to.

philadelphia metro area population... 5+ million

yeah i was really going out on a limb saying the majority of the city doesn't care about the phillies very much. i would think the fact that 300,000 people in the area watched the game would make that fact pretty obvious to everyone, but i guess i'm missing something.

i'm not on either side, but for christ's sake, they can't pack the entire city's population into cbp

people just aren't listening to what i'm saying. dude wants to call me out for saying NO ONE IN PHILLY CARES, when i clearly said THE MAJORITY doesn't care. this should be pretty obvious. i love the phillies more than anyone else in this city, but for every diehard phillies fan i know there are 20 diehard eagles fans. nearly everyone at least kind of cares about the eagles, and a lot of people pay no attention whatsoever to the phillies. this is just reality, you guys must live in a different city than me.

my only point is that it's not surprising, given the way people love their eagles in this city, that a regular season game outdoes a phillies playoff game. i personally am not a big sixers fan and went to at least 2 phillies games this season during sixers playoff games without giving it a second thought. most eagles fans would be considerably more inclined to do such a thing.
