Phillies vs Dodgers: NLCS Discussion

Postby BigEd76 » Sun Oct 05, 2008 17:52:04

For the seventh time in their long history, the Phillies are in the NLCS........and for the 4th time it'll be the Dodgers standing in their path towards a World Series. The Dodgers took advantage of a weak NL West and entered the playoffs with the worst record among the 8 teams, but they took advantage of Cubs miscues, had great pitching and swept the century-long losers. The Phils beat the Brewers in 4 games despite very little offensive production from Utley or Howard, but the starting pitching has been great and the role players like Victorino have stepped up. LA swept the Phils out west (though two of those games should have been Phillies wins), and the Phils returned the favor back home the following week. The Dodgers have Joe Torre's experience, great righty pitching and the lineup has been dangerous since that Manny guy arrived. Should be a fun series. 4 wins until the next champagne party.

(All games on FOX)

Scheduled Starters: (Joe Buck / Tim McCarver)
THU 8:20PM at Philadelphia = Hamels vs Lowe
FRI 4:30PM at Philadelphia = Myers vs Billingsley
SUN 8:20PM at Los Angeles = Moyer vs Kuroda
MON 8:20PM at Los Angeles = Blanton vs Lowe
WED 10/15 8:20PM at Los Angeles = Hamels vs Billingsley

We're getting the 4 PM game on Friday, aren't we?

If the Angels are in the ALCS, they'll want a 5 PM-ish Pacific time start for Game 1.

If the Red Sox make the ALCS against either opponent, they's the PRIME TIME team, huh?

Dammit.

Doesn't FOX just get primetime every night? They are doing the NLCS and TBS is doing the ALCS -- I would think FOX gets the priority no matter what the involved teams.

Well the Dodgers is the team that's worried me since the preseason. They looked lost for a while, but then put it together down the stretch. Their pitching is my main concern (well, that and Manny and a few of the kids). Lowe, Billingsley, and Kuroda are all groundball pitchers with decent to excellent control. Add in the hitters being geared up for the playoffs and it's a recipe for lots and lots and lots of groundballs. I'm more worried about this series than whatever team will come out of the AL.

Taken together, those 3 pitchers have a total of:

595 IP
563 Hits
41 HRs
167 Walks
~ 2.10 GB/FB -- lots and lots of groundballs.

Based on their ballparks, the Phils and Dodgers should probably trade pitching staffs.

If that's the case though, wouldn't they already have times posted for our series?

And they beat The World's Most Favoritest Team Ever, the 162-0 in the regular season Chicago Cubs.

The idiots on TV crack me up. Not one of them gave LA a chance against the Cubs. 3 games later the Dodgers are unbeatable. Whatever.

Phils in 6.

When the Phils were swept in LA, they lost two 1 run games and two 2 run games

Phils outscored LA 27-5 when they swept them at CBP
