Ask Selig to put in the DH for the NL for the rest of the year?

fuck, I'm starting to have bad feelings about this. I know the mets system is meant to be trashed, and I know that this isn't remotely the same situation as santana, but I'm still really, really worried.

Not least because if this turns into an arms race, seems to me we pretty much have to win it.

Manny's got 905 games of major league experience in RF. OFJOAB is tiny; let him hang out in RF, and hit.

but corner outfield defense is key, and usually the major reason teams win or lose pennants

Between the personality, salary, moving to Burrell to right (I guess), trading something of value, and basically burying Jenkins ... yeah. I'm not gonna get my hopes up.

Every day.

So let's speculate. Would you give up Rollins in the deal and live with Bruntlett at short (and/or call up Donald) to get this done? If Rollins is involved - I can't imagine you have to give up too much more.

I'll just be glad when Thursday comes and goes. I don't think anything (at least not anything good) is going to happen between now and then. Hope I'm wrong and they took Happ out to include him in a trade for Halladay, Holliday or Manny (in that order), but that's just delusional, I think.

It would be insane if we got any of those guys. It would be hard to see Marson go though if he were to be included in any of these deals mainly because the catching on this team is just sad.

Rollins' contract is too good to give up. We'd be trading our SS for the Sox' SS problem. If I thought Donald could handle SS every day defensively, I might feel differently. But all the "experts" think he can't.

What worries me is that the Phillies alleged interest seems to be coming from the Red Sox, which suggests a not-so-subtle attempt to use the Phils as a stalking horse to get the Mets to include Martinez.

Honestly, I could live with Jaramillo and Coste. It wouldn't be that bad.

I agree he's a bargain and Donald isn't the defensive answer. Ramirez is supposedly available due to conflicts with management. It appears Jimmy is headed down that road as well and it may be affecting his teammates some. Just thought I'd throw it out there. I guess what I'm asking is which is the lesser of two evils in this purely speculative trade scenario. Would you want to see Marson, Carrasco, Donald deal for Ramirez? Or a Rollins + let's say Golson for Ramirez?

The whole Happ thing, combined with the Manny stuff, is just too odd.

Some kind of Marson, Werth, Eaton for Manny deal? I can't even wrap my head around that.

As much as I'd hate to lose the prospects you cite ... if you're really gonna bring in Ramirez, you're pushing all your chips in for the next two years. In which case you need Rollins.

I think Marson, Victorino/Werth, and Carrasco is more likely. Dude, let's be real. Nobody is taking Eaton.
