Maddux has a 6.02 ERA on the road this year. I can understand why he's at the top of wishlists.

Yikes, I didn't realize his road ERA was so bad. I also didn't know he was insisting on the west coast -- he does have a FNTC. So maybe he was a bad idea -- I should have researched it before suggesting it, I guess.

Although Giles isn't the type of player I would normally try to acquire, he doesn't really "suck." While we're pointing out home and away splits, he has a .410 OBP and .854 OPS away from home (.395 OBP, .820 OPS, overall). I think our biggest offensive need is some OBP at the bottom of the lineup. Way too many out are being made down there. Adding a good OBP guy would help turn the lineup over and get some more RBI opportunities for Rollins and Victorino. Unless we pick up the 9 million option for 2009, he would cost about 6 million for the remainer of the year (3 mil in salary, 3 mil 2009 buyout). There are some other teams also looking for OF help though, so he might cost a prospect I wouldn't want to lose..

MARCUS Giles does suck. So does Bill Giles.
Teams lie, sometimes for good reasons, sometimes for bad. They do it to get an advantage while they look at the trade market or just because they can

Manny will be a Phillie.

This is basically a done deal with some minor issues to iron out. I would anticipate a press conference later this week.

Abreu will be involved.

Happ to the pen and Saenez released or Eaton to the DL.

Lefties hitting .263 against Happ, Righties only .232. Seems logical to use him as a LOOGY

This is the Phillies we are talking about. I would prefer that to trading Carrasco for Fuentes.

A team that has problems with Rollin's attitude is certainly going to love dealing with Manny.
We now know that Amaro really is running the Phillies. He and Monty seem to have ignored the committee.

well, that it made it all the way to zolecki and into one of his columns without being completely debunked leaves my hope level basically status quo. which is good

The Mets were trying to downplay their interest in Manny Ramirez, but an official with one of the teams involved said the Mets and the Phillies were both in serious pursuit of the goofy Red Sox slugger.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the delicacy of the negotiations, said a deal was probably too complicated to get completed before Thursday's deadline. But Ramirez told people in Boston yesterday that he'd be open to waiving his no-trade protection and approving a deal out of town.

The Phillies may have the edge with Marson, as Boston is looking for catching help in 2009 and beyond. But Ramirez may be an enticing enough target that the Mets would start talking about prospects that have so far been off-limits -- players such as Fernando Martinez, Jon Niese and Robert Parnell.

Well, at least the next three days should be fun...

Dan Graziano and Ed Price of the Newark Star-Ledger talked to an official who says the Mets and Phillies are both in "serious pursuit" of Ramirez. If so, why do both teams have no interest in Adam Dunn? Graziano and Price think Ramirez would command big-name prospects like Fernando Martinez or Lou Marson.

Sean McAdam:

As of last night, it was believed that four teams had spoken to the Red Sox, all from the National League: the Philadelphia Phillies, New York Mets, Arizona Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Dodgers.

There's too much smoke here.

There really is. Add in the fact that Eskin said last night that Gillick shook his head "no" before Eskin even finished asking him about Manny, and it's reason to believe something is at least in construction. Who knows if it gets done, but Gillick is kidding himself if he's not trying to get Manny.

This would... rule.

A RH-hitter, who's 162-game AVERAGE is

.312 / .409 / .590, with 40 HR, 132 RBI, 111 R.
