I'm always the heftiest bar tab (surprise, huh). So I make a point of trying to pay more- some time a lot more- by saying "I'll put the first thirty bucks in, and we'll split it after that". Never works, though.

My friend said his wife was going out with girlfriends to a byob. He said, "you know what that means: big bottles of shitty Yellow Tail, overanalysis of the bill, all resulting in an embarrassing tip."

If you're with friends, you should split bills, unless someone orders something significantly cheaper or more expensive than the rest of the table. And it should be the duty of the people who ordered more to note that, i.e., "I got the steak and the $12 cocktails, I'm throwing in extra" or "hey, Bill only got a side of fries, he only owes a few bucks."

I feel like there was a crappy episode of Friends about this.

There was.

I first read this as "shared bedroom."

Just got back from the annual 3 on 3 basketball tournament. Got spanked. Didn't lose to women though, so I still have life.

Dude, why do you want to go on the enemies list? And was my opinion any more extreme than Shore or Trent Steele's? It might have been less extreme considering I allowed for divvying up the check the way Jersey's about to do. Incidentally, when not among close friends, the different amounts by person is really the only way to go.

one of my best friends is notoriously concerned with her money among all our friends, but she's also generous with tipping. so while we almost always pay separately at least we're never short when she's in charge of things. i'd rather have the whole thing be a big hassle than have to scramble to make up for one cheap bastard in the group every time.

lunch with coworkers we always just split it up evenly.

going out the bar with my close friends we usually just rotate picking up the tab or a round or two.

any other time i'll go to the waiter/bartender on the side and get mine separated out if its not a hassle. i never carry cash and i hate piling on 5 cards on an unsuspecting person.
