My roommate is out to get me. She always somehow sneaks into our shared bathroom right before me and spends a good 45 minutes in there. It doesn't matter if I wake up early or late, she's in there. Sigh.

This is why BYOB is a good option--bringing a couple of bottles of wine saves money and hassle. Also, since it's a big group, make sure to check whether the tip has been added on or not.

then you're all not friends and you shouldn't go out.

if an extra $10-15 is going to put you in the red you shouldn't be going out to begin with.

good rule of thumb is if you're anticipating spending as much money on parsing the bill as on consuming dessert, don't go there - literally.

if +/- $5 of "average tab" to their actual bill is gonna kill someone at the table, stay the heck out of there
Yes, but in a double utley you can put your utley on top they other guy's utley, and you're the winner. (Swish)

it's really not fair to expect someone that had a coke pay the same as someone that had 5 beers. that's retarded

yeah, even as a guy who generally drinks more than anyone else regardless of whether it's two beers or several, I wouldn't really support that. it would make a lot of nights more convenient, but it'd also keep a lot of my best friends from going out in the first place.

Sit down dinners vs a bar tab/late night drinking are separate issues IMO.

hard to say what I'd call it when I get dinner with friends seeing as it's usually at a gastropub-type place anyway

Given the tight budgets some of the people coming are on, I don't think splitting the bill would be fair. I'm sure we're gonna get appetizers, entrees and drinks. If someone just gets an entree and drinks water or a soda, it'd be dumb for them to pay for my appetizer and beers.

Maybe we should have picked a BYOB, but this is where the person wanted to go for her birthday. I don't think it'd be fair to say to people that if they aren't ready to spend $50 they shouldn't bother coming out for their friend's birthday dinner. I just wish they wouldn't be so cheap - intentionally or unintentionally - and fail to acknowledge tax and tip and possible beverages when settling their end of the tab. And honestly it's probably more likely that the people not being cheap in ordering will be the ones that fuck up tallying how much they owe.

Also there's a 100% chance that not everyone will have cash and they'll be handing the waiter a check with three credit cards in it. That's another thing that drives me nuts. You're going out for a group dinner. Get some cash out of the bank.

No. Unless my parents are pulling a fast one on me.

I don't mind throwing a few bucks here and there, especially among friends, but it gets old subsidizing someone's meal who always gets a few drinks or the steak etc. And there are the people who are either completely cheap or can't figure out a bill and you always end up buying some of their meal.

But, if I'm with 4-6 good friends and they don't have the right combination of bills I have no problem putting a bit more out.
