My grandmother came out of surgery a little while ago and they said she is doing reasonably well but is far from out of the woods. She will definitely not be able to live on her own anymore and may end up in a wheelchair and that is if she pulls through. They described her to my parents as a very sick lady.
Just horrible to see someone so close go through crap like this.

If a patient has even a 10% chance to live they should absolutely do everything possible to save their life. But when people have cancer that far along, they know there is no chance that the patient will survive. Putting them through chemo (which is just brutal) to prolong the pain and suffering for what- a few months if that?- is just disgusting. Just make them as comfortable as possible and let them pass on with some dignity.
It's really sad to say but doctors are nothing more than salesman at that point. They need to make the hospital as much money as possible assuming, of course, the patient has insurance.
