Read the name, saw a pic and still thought it was a dude. Didn't register until I read "she" in a column. I'm all for it if they think she's qualified

I'm not totally against hiring her as GM but I can see how it might be better to look to an Atkins or Klentak for your next GM. Both have been heavily involved in their respective team's moves.

She's been my number one choice for quite some time. Trust me.

Undecided until I hear what Mike Bell has to say about it.

More in Reading's camp as well. I'm sure she's done some great work in the MLB office but I don't see how she could be a trendy choice at this point. I'd be more interested in Klentak or someone similar.

So the new GM will inherit one of the best farm systems in baseball, the #1 pick in the draft, a current payroll with lots of flexibility to make moves, and an unlimited amount of money to spend.

Yeah, MacPhail and the Phillies can be really selective here.

As long as she's a progressive thinker, I'm fine with it. Klentak would be cool.

I'd hire her as an assistant GM with Klentak as the GM. We all know MacPhail is calling the shots anyway. While I'd like the Phillies to be on the cutting edge of diversity, I'm concerned that she doesn't have any recent experience in a front office and MacPhail has been out of the game for a few years too.

She's already been an Asst GM right? I don't think she is taking that position again. Especially not with a younger guy in the lead chair.

Anyway, I'd love to see it just because her meeting with Bowa and Dallas Green would be like sitcom worthy

Yeah you could argue he and Ng would be fine so long as the scouts are plugged in. It's more about team building and negotiating skills

She was an Assistant GM with the Yankees for three years, then an assistant GM for the dodgers for 10. Her "absence" which isn't really one at all, doesn't bother me, and at the age of 46 I think she still qualifies as young among gms.

That said I really don't have any way of evaluating her since I don't know what roles she played in various decisions by the clubs she worked for. This summary, though, makes me feel like someone ought to hire her or let her know to stop trying.

In 2005, Ng was interviewed for the vacant position of Dodgers general manager. The Dodgers hired Ned Colletti as their GM, who immediately kept Ng on as his assistant. In 2008, she was interviewed for the general manager position with the Seattle Mariners, but the position went to Jack Zduriencik. In 2009, she interviewed for the San Diego Padres' General Manager position, which went to Jed Hoyer. In October 2011, she interviewed for the Los Angeles Angels general manager position but the Angels hired Jerry Dipoto. In July 2014, Ng interviewed for the Padres' GM position, and was one of four finalists for the position. The Padres hired A.J. Preller.

She is Senior VP of Baseball Operations for MLB. That's hardly the same as being out of baseball, as some of you seem to be implying. She currently oversees the MLB scouting bureau and all of its international operations. That's more than fine with me.

She could most likely get us two Cubans and an Aruban right quick.

Are any of us really in a position to say she's the best person for the job? I get that she would be an exciting hire, if for no other reason than that it would demonstrate the Phils have finally realized it's the 21st century and have given up with the old boys method of running the team. But that seems to be her strongest qualification at this point (based on this thread anyway) and I'm not sure that's really a qualification.

Given the Phils specific situation, this is a critical hire. If an Amaro can do so much damage to a team that at the time of his hire looked like it was a possible dynasty, imagine what the wrong GM could do to a team that seems to me right now about as vulnerable as a newborn. There's a ton of potential that could easily be squandered, and if that happens, it may be a very very long time before the team gets back to this point.

To me, the most interesting thing about all this is how quiet the Phils have been regarding releasing any real info on this.

To me, the most interesting thing about all this is how quiet the Phils have been regarding releasing any real info on this.

She was a high-level assistant at two of the most prestigious franchises (NYY, LAD) in all of sports, let alone MLB. And was retained by Ned Coletti after DePodesta got fired. Then left the Dodgers to work for MLB's front office in a newly-created position at the urging of Joe Torre.

And she accomplished all of this despite being a member of two minority groups that have never had an executive role in any MLB front office.

I think that those are some pretty damn impressive qualifications.
