For several years, Amaro had talked about the team’s declining offense and the need for more production. The Phillies ranked in the bottom half of the NL in runs, home runs and other significant offensive categories in 2014. On Wednesday, Amaro disputed that he was looking for offense. He said pitching was the focus.
“Who said we were looking for a power bat? We have a long-term plan and the moves we make are based on that. We’re looking for pitching right now. Right now, we’re looking to improve our pitching. We need more pitching.”

Once you have a good core and are ready to compete, then I'd go get whatever pitching is still needed. You're more likely to guess right on the pitching closer to the time they're needed.
