Howard has hit a lot of guys in his career. He doesn't hit anymore.

The fact that he has more walks than K's against a pitcher, with 79 plate appearances, suggests he sees the ball well against him. If Howard is in a platoon, this is the game you use Howard for.
But with or without arm trouble, Lee's value is much affected by his contract. The Philadelphia Phillies' deals, one official mused, present an example of why some teams have set policies against handing out particular contract clauses, such as no-trade clauses. "Their contracts have everything," said one executive, referring to the many vesting options and player options and significant buyouts. "It's like they're evergreen."

sydnor wrote:so i looked at Howard/Hudson post sucking - I'm defining 2011 as the start of sucking but an .835 OPS in 2011 isn't necessarily terrible.
Anyway
2011 - 3/12 with 1 walk, 2K, 1 sac fly gets
2012 - 5/14 with 2 walks, 3K, 1HR
2013 - 0/2
Gets you an obp of .344, slg of .500 and 3 walks and 5K. Clearly even in 2012 where he was terrible, he hit Hudson well, but is that because he "Sees the ball well against Hudson" or because he gets hot every once in a while and happened to play against Hudson. Won't we see for RH pitchers who have been around for more than 5 years stats that indicate that Ryan Howard terrorized those players? How relevant is what he did back in 08/09?

You make a decent point.
