No one is mad at him because "he wants to win". That's complete bullshit. They're made because he takes every opportunity to act as tone deaf and douchey as possible

He didn't say, "I love it here and Philly has been great to me, so I don't want to leave. But yeah-- if I got the opportunity to play for a contender I'd might be okay with a trade in the right sort of situation. But right now I'm focused on being a Phillies."

Instead he said, basically, "Yeah get me the fuck out of here this is dogshit." As though Ruben brought him here on a slave ship against his will

Add in the part where he says anyone who wants to stay in this mess is a fuck head, then you got it.

Except he didn't say that at all, calvin.

“What?” he said.

“Some guys want to stay on a losing team?" he said.

“That’s mind-boggling to me,” he said.

So if a contender called, you’re ready to go?

“Yeah,” Papelbon said with an are-you-kidding-me laugh. “I think that’s a no-brainer.”

The 2016 option vests with 100 GF in 14-15 and he's at 30 now and averages 58 per 162 games in his career. Unless he's not a closer here or elsewhere or he gets hurt for at least a couple months, that option will vest.

He was hurt last year, and his results dipped a bit, but he's been absolutely lights out this year. Plus we can eat some money

Exactly, he didnt call anyone a fuck head. He just said he doesn't understand why anyone would pass up the opportunity to play on a contending team if given the opportunity. Also, he has only been here like 2.5 years. It isn't like Utley, Howard or Rollins saying this who have been here forever.

Every time that Papelbon opens his mouth my respect for Francona increases. What a zoo he had in Boston.

to me it sounds like he throws people who might want to stay under the bus. he calls it mind boggling as in he cant possibly comprehend how someone would think that way.

it is mind boggling to me that you dont see that.

He's a baseball player who gets played to play baseball and is playing baseball quite well. I like him. I probably don't like his taste in music or share many other things in common with him, but he's also not someone with whomI need to ever discuss those things. Just a baseball player who plays baseball well.
Fine. You wanna act like you're two? I'll act like I'm one.

Maybe he'll want to go to Cleveland with LeBron.

To oversimplify it a bit, you could make the case that the remaining financial obligation is decreasing faster than his performance is declining. In April that was far from a sure thing. I think he can be moved, though I'm not expecting a huge return.

David Cohen on TGP yesterday wrote about Papelbon's stunningly good season, which was amusing because Cohen (like all good-hearted people) loathes Pap. On the TGP email list this morning someone pointed out that the saber revolution probably makes it less likely he'll bring something good back, because now everyone will think to look at his rate stats, etc. But I still think he'll go to Detroit or LAA.

No one is mad at him because "he wants to win". That's complete #$!&@. They're made because he takes every opportunity to act as tone deaf and douchey as possible

Exactly, this above is how you convey that you'd like to leave. I don't know why that's so hard.

Add in the fact that you are either calling your fellow teammates idiots or fans of losing. He's an ass.
