Would you do a pure salary dump trade of Lee, Howard and Papelbon for pretty much nothing (maybe just one good prospect)? I wouldn't just because the salary room doesn't help us since there's nothing on the FA market worth signing unless you're going to overpay for Jon Lester and Max Scherzer and James Shields. Chase Headley? Hanley Ramirez?

Payroll limitations is not what's keeping us down, its that there's nothing in the upper minors.

Would much rather eat salary to get back prospects. Gotta buy our way out of the basement somehow.

Exactly. Their big problem is a talent deficit.

Papelbon: "Some guys want to stay on a losing team? That's mind-boggling to me. I think that's a no-brainer (to want to leave)."

This piece of shit can't get out of Philly fast enough for me.

He is good but I really don't know if I ever hated a Phillie more. Maybe Tyler Houston or Omar Daal.

I don't like Papelbon much and he's probably one of the dumbest people alive, but he signed here to play for a winner and we're dogshit. He's having a great year. Glad to hear he will waive the NTC and maybe help us get something useful back.

Still don't understand why Phillies fans hated Lance.

The issue with Pabelbon is that instead of wanting to try and make the team he's on better, he simply wants to jump ship. I get it, they are awful and it's not fun playing for losers, but you still have to do what you can to help your team win. There are ways to hint that you want to be traded while still showing respect for the team you are playing with.

Utley and Hamels and others are not saying that they don't want to win by saying the want to stick around. They are saying they want to win with their current team while Pabelbon just wants to latch on to any possible contender and leave his teammates in the dust. It's selfish and it's quitting.

What the hell is he supposed to do to try to make the Phillies better? I'm sure he wants to make the Phillies better, but the only things he can do for that are murder Amaro or get traded for a decent piece or two. He's been out of his mind this year, has one year left on his contract, and is probably nearing the end as an elite level reliever. Of course he wants to go somewhere else. Unlike Cole and Chase, he hasn't experienced the good times here. He could be more diplomatic with his language, but he's a complete fucking moron, so that's difficult for him.

He's such an asshat. He's too dumb to realize that he's hurting his chances of getting traded by lowering his value and making some teams less likely to want him. Phils won't make a trade now if they won't get back value. They'll just wait to the offseason and try again.

If he wants to get traded, he should be saying that in private and keeping his mouth shut the rest of the time.

Or maybe he's diabolically clever and is being public to try to pressure the phils to buy at the deadline.

If teams know the phils are being pressured to trade him, they may offer less. And then also less teams may want an asshat.

If anything they gained leverage since he said he'd waive to go to teams on his no trade list.
