god damn it why am i defending michael young

Rube explicitly said on WIP yesterday that he wanted guys like Young, Utley and Halladay in the clubhouse. I guess with the young players coming up, he wants some leaders that they can learn from, versus some of the more selfish players. I don't think it's an accident that Asche's locker is next to Utley's.

That's not worth 2 million dollars. It's just not.

Besides, are we sure they'd even be learning the right things? Dom will be back in less than 5 days. Young's spot disappears then.

I have a hard time with the "Young is a fantastic example" thing. Why are the Rangers paying so much money to not have him around? They have oodles of young players - Andrus, Profar, Garcia, Beltre, Martin, etc. - but didn't want him there, they paid us to take him, and didn't want him back when they were looking for a bat, and he was essentially free.

Doesn't that raise some kind of question about at least how one organization views him?

Not for nothing, but this is the same Michael Young who pitched a fit when the Rangers asked him to switch positions and then pitched another when they signed Beltre and asked him to DH.

Unfortunately, we are talking about an organization that refuses to take off their rose-colored glasses. "We are losing because ______________" and "__________________" is never "because our GM did a horrible job of filling the roster" or "we have a $125 million sink hole at 1B". Does anybody really believe this team is suddenly a contender if Halladay did get shelved?

When the Phillies were a ~.500 team you could have made the argument we could contend.

Short of a franchise altering trade, I don't see how we conpete next year. Especially with Amaro signing the checks in the offseason.

Pettibone scratched from next start...forearm tightness. Uh-oh.

Phillies prescribe anti inflamitories...no reference to an MRI, as usual.

Sports Management students will be doing a case study on Amaro in 5 years like MBA students do on Enron today.

He's real bad. Zach Miner is real bad too but at least it's a new face.

Are the Phillies gonna set a team record for most players used in a season this year?

They might. They would have if Amaro had the stones to sell.
