Salisbury: Clear that Upton is their priority. Doesn't know how it's going to shake out.

Salisbury said the school of thought is that Upton is the one guy on the market who can really get significantly better over the course of his contract.

Talking about Stanton, now, Phillies "would trade the farm for him" but it's a pipedream as they can't match any offer and Marlins won't trade him anyway.

Hamilton: a longshot, although they haven't ruled anything out. They'll certainly look into him if his price comes way down, but they don't view it as a risk worth taking right now. And by the time his price comes down, they could already have their spots filled.

Bullpen: Looking at a bunch of guys. Ruben interested in guys with injury question marks who could be bargains. Soria is one of the guys mentioned, as is Mike Adams. They've "long liked" Adams. Phils like Aumont, Diekman, Rosenberg, De Fratus. You keep throwing them out there, and one or two is going to click, and that's their mentality. But they're still looking for a bargain type 8th inning guy to bridge that gap.

3B: Youkilis is still the guy they like as a bridge to Asche. Keppinger and Chavez are both possibilities. But a lot of this depends on what they do in the OF. If they bring in a lot of offense in the OF, they could go with Frandsen/Galvis etc. at 3B.

On "big moves": The idea has to be that they made their big move in July when they signed Hamels, who would have been the #1 FA if he hit the market. Upton etc. have to be viewed as complimentary moves in regard to that. Which really makes sense.

A big "BATS" from Gargano.

Howard: Already has shed some weight. Knows he need to change his approach. He needs to cut down on his strikeout rate. Has already spoken with both of the new hitting coaches.

Not sure if i like them targeting Upton, then being okay with going with a defensive 3rd baseman.

he also said they don't have that assassin's mentality yet and that's why they need the 8th inning guy

I took that as..if we add two bats in OF(say upton and ross, we probably go cheap at 3b)

if we add just one big bat in OF..we probably can afford youk

Utley: Ruben and Scott Sheridan have kept regular contact and visits. Utley has not gone into dormancy and is taking ground balls, so they don't really know what he'll be when he gets out there in Clearwater but everything is a great sign.

Endorse this along with a bullpen guy coming off an injury that you get discounted.

Halladay: Trying to strengthen his core, which Salisbury said is weird considering he's already in great shape. No real health update. He has to make 28-31 starts and pitch well.

Glad they are at least keeping in contact instead of Rube not knowing a thing like last year
