I like it. But Major Addition Hamels gets the ball for the opener.

like, but with asche looking pretty darn close to ready and frandsen and fields available, i think i would rather trade pitching (kendrick or worley, probably the latter, plus one or two relievers/prospects) for span or fowler and sign someone like liriano or mccarthy to replace the traded pitching. upton would have just as much value in right as in center (better relative defense/speed offsetting less relative power), i feel better about liriano/mccarthy+span/fowler+fields/asche than i do about relying on youkilis to stay healthy, worley, brown, mayberry, and schierholtz to bounce back and ruf not to disappoint.

rollins,utley,upton,howard,ruf/brown platoon?,fields/asche platoon?,ruiz,span/fowler
hamels,halladay,lee,mccarthy/liriano,kendrick
kratz, galvis, platoon guys, and one or two of schierholtz/nix/mayberry/frandsen on the bench
papelbon, uehara, bastardo, defrastus, aumont/diekman, lindblom/rosenberg in the pen

i prefer span to fowler, the former actually has home/away splits almost as bad as the former. not sure which will be cheaper. fowler has flashier numbers and is younger, but the rockies might conceivably convince themselves that kendricks sinker is made for success in coors.

of course, all of the above is far-fetched. the only reason to believe it might happen is that getting span and a starting pitcher would be flashier than getting youk or chavez, and rubes is always looking for extra reasons to smirk.

elaborate please. i see rapid promotions and stats that say he dominated a+ and aa, and finished very strong in the aaa-equivalent afl.
some scouts hate his defense or hitting, others think he's made big leaps forward in one or both. some reports have the phillies continuing to fast-track him, others have them putting on the breaks. this is what i get out of staring at the stats and googling around for late-summer and fall news reports on him. if you have very recent or more definitive info from which i can learn, i would like to see it.

Chipper's contract was around $13M last year and Bourn's was close to $7M. If the Braves want to put that money together and sign B.J., I'm happy for them..... and the Phillies. He's not a $18M per ball player which is close to what I expect that he will get. The Phillies need to focus on Pagan or, swallow some pride, Victorino. Then go get Swisher. Ruf or Brown/ Pagan or Victorino/ Swisher isn't the worst OF in the game.

amaro said, "he's probably a year, maybe a year and a half away." He also said, "we'll let him decide how quickly he's going to develop into a major-league player." [brookover, november 1st].

the "probably" and the "let him decide" together with the rapid advancement and success at all levels tells me that there is not an insignificant chance of asche makes it to the phillies in 2013. letting asche decide means that whomever they have at 3b can't be seen as someone blocking asche. if youkilis is willing to platoon, there's no problem in that respect, but he would likely be more expensive than you want a platoon guy to be.

don't get me wrong. i would love to have youkilis rather than frandsen as the rh half of a 3b platoon, also available to rest howard.
i just think that the health/price ratio for youkilis is low enough that i would rather spend the money on a young, healthy cf and pitching.

Feel like we should have an award ceremony for phorever's 500th career trade proposal centered around Kendrick

I am coming around a bit on Span though. Nice contract, and does seem gettable for Worley

I really really really don't want Bourn

There are so many different ways Amaro can go that it's hard for me to get too up or down on any one guy. But I think I'd rather spend money and a draft pick than trade near-term prospects and guys like Worley/Kendrick/Brown.
