I heard something about it but forget the details. It's going to be a baseball complex built near the rec center and subsidized by MLB.

New Stadium for the Phils. CBP is old and a bandbox and doesn't hold enough people paying big monies.
Teams lie, sometimes for good reasons, sometimes for bad. They do it to get an advantage while they look at the trade market or just because they can

klaptrap loves the phillies too

I hate that article and its back-handed trashing of saber and its "citation" of unnamed "scouts," "officals," etc.

But I also love that article:

Bob Klapisch wrote:But rival executives say the Phillies’ intimidation factor goes far beyond the spreadsheets. “They have a presence that you don’t see very often,” is how one senior official from another team put it. “You walk on the field with them, especially in their ballpark, and you can tell they’re convinced they’re going to win.”

smuggy's response to Werth signing with Bora$:

"I think for Jayson's sake, I'm glad he got it resolved. Now more than anything else, he can just concentrate on playing baseball and trying to get us to the playoffs."
.
.
"We would love to bring him back, but our focus right now is not on Jayson Werth's contract."
.
.

"We're not sure [it's realistic to bring him back]. I'd like to think it is, but decisions like this will be made at the appropriate time."

What about now?

Wagner probably learned more about the Phillies from his time spent with teams in the NL East than in Philly where his penchant for calling things the way he saw them didn’t always jive with some of the folks with the club. Nevertheless, because of his personal history and the fact that he insists this will be his final season in baseball before he retires to the homestead in Virginia to relax with his family, this final trip to Philly takes on even more significance.

Or not…

“It’s no different than the first time I came here. It’s probably more fun coming here now knowing that I never have to come back after these three games,” he said. “So that’s good.”

Ah yes, the old Wagner charm. At age 38 and having a stellar season (7-2, 1.43 ERA, 35 saves in 65 games) in his first full year after having Tommy John surgery, the final fortnight hasn’t quite played out the way he had hoped. That’s not all bad, though. With 12 games left in the season, Wagner and the Braves are three games behind the Phillies in the NL East, but 2½ games ahead of San Diego in the wild-card race. That means the possibility exists for one more trip to Philly for the NLCS.

Of course Wagner could come back in 2011 for a 17th season where he could close in on Lee Smith’s mark of 478 saves for third all-time. He only needs four more saves to pass John Franco to become the all-time leader for lefties, and if he wants one more go-around, he has it thanks to an option in his current deal that kicked in when he finished his 50th game of the year.

But rather than take $6.5 million guaranteed for one more year, Wagner says he’s going home. He’s not even contemplating one more season with the Braves.

“I ain’t thinkin’. I’m retirin’, buddy,” Wagner said. “You can write all the bad [bleep] you want because I’ll never read it.”

Instead, in what could be Wagner’s last trip to Philadelphia, the lefty figures his Braves are playing with house money. With the Phillies set to send their three aces to the mound during the series in Cole Hamels, Roy Halladay and Roy Oswalt, while the Braves counter with a 24-year-old right-hander named Brandon Beachy for his major league debut in Monday’s opener, Wagner says the pressure is all on the Phils.

“We’re trying to trick them. I think that was the best thing for us,” Wagner says about the Braves using a rookie and the Phillies going with their big three. “Shoot, we know the Roys and the Cole. It’s when you start throwing guys you don’t know. We’re not overwhelmed by those guys. We know what they got and what they can do. At least you have a track record and the comfort level is there.”

I still can't decide if Wagner is so rock stupid that he didn't understand that "booing" the 98 and 99 mph pitches he threw was more about the radar gun and people just having lots of fun with the fact that the Phillies even had a guy who could hit triple digits on the gun, or whether he, in his down-home hickiness simply hated Philadelphia from the get-go and now uses the booing the gun thing to retro-actively pseudo-justify it and also just to screw with the heads of fans.

He doesn't seem totally insensate in interviews, which makes me suspect it's partially an act on his part, but he insists on it so regularly, he does come across as bitter.
