I think they'll have more leverage to sign a new deal with better payouts at this point, but it seems like they are content with the current setup. So we'll see what happens.

For viewing, this means that instead of neat Phillies-themed shows during the day, we will still get infomercials on CSN. I had wished the Phillies would have used their ownership influence to change that, but now definitely not going to happen.

He was looking for a discount, but I doubt Boras is offering him a lower fee.

Why? The source said the Chatham Glenwood High School graduate is looking for a “fee deal.’’ Rather than dole out the standard 5 percent commission to his agent, Werth wants to give something closer to 3 or 3.5 percent.

Werth has looked into established agents such as Scott Boras and brothers Seth and Sam Levinson, the source said, but no such high-end shop is likely to cut Werth a break. For instance, the Levinsons couldn’t agree to take 3.5 percent from Werth; they’re taking 5 percent from David Wright and their many other clients.

Hope he gets them in the Braves series.

I negotiated a union contract. Tell Jayson I'll do it for 1%.

Future free agent Jayson Werth is now represented by Scott Boras.
Werth will look for a big payday this offseason, and it's unclear if the aging and expensive Phillies have enough to pay him what he wants. They also have super prospect Domonic Brown in the wings. If Werth leaves the friendly confines of Citizens Bank ballpark, he may see a dip in power. He's a career .292/.380/.527 hitter there, compared to .261/.362/.461 away from home. No matter, he still has power and speed and is a strong fantasy outfielder.

This year, only 4 teams are on a current pace to score 800 runs this season, and perhaps 3 more ultimately will. Phillies would have to average over 7 runs a game between now and the end of the season, so they ain't getting there.

Meanwhile, the Phillies are on a pace to allow 652 runs, which would be their fewest allowed in a full season (i.e., excluding strike-shortened 1994) since 1983 (635). Yes, 652 runs would be fewer than they allowed in 1995, when only 144 games were played owing to the strike.

In doing this, I noticed the least the Phillies ever allowed over a 162 game season was 557 - 557! - in 1976. No wonder that team was so cotdamn good.

I had wondered what the 1915 team did since it was both the deadball era and pretty much the best team the franchise had back then. 463 runs in 153 games.
But the more interesting thing is they led the league in ERA (2.17 and a crazy 127 ERA+) but also in runs scored. I wonder if any other Phillies team has ever done that.

Well, the Phillies haven't spent time or money investing in Latin American anti-aging methods, so it's no great shock that we find ourselves in this position.

I'll put this in here instead of the Braves thread since it actually makes me like rather than hate Billy Wagner:

The television in manager Bobby Cox's office was tuned to the Phillies' game when the Nationals scored in the top of the eighth to take a 6-3 lead.

"Oh, good," Cox said after acknowledging that he is in full scoreboard-watching mode.

Wagner, who got the day off in favor of rookie Craig Kimbrel after saving the first two games of the series, wasn't so confident the Nationals' lead would hold up.

"Is that game over?" Wagner asked.

Told that the Nationals still led by three going into the bottom of the ninth inning, Wagner said, "That's nothing."

anyone see the new (I assume it's new) Sportscenter commercial with the Phanatic & Jeter? Pretty funny with the Phanatic's strut being the best part.
