I was thinking it's going to be weird when we clinch the NL East this year. Probably will be on the road for the first time. Hopefully it happens at CBP South.

Listening to Chris Russo on sirius today, he was going on and on about how you really don't want to face the Phillies in the first round of the playoffs. I'm not commenting on the brillian analysis. Rather, I want to highlight the awesomeness of not being a mere playoff team, but being the playoff team the other playoff teams don't want to face. Also, the assumption Russo was making was that the Phillies would finish with the best record in the NL and thus be the first seed.

I realize the Phillies are going to be really tough in a 5 game series. Russo pointed out that the if the Phillies had the best NL record, they'd get to choose whether they'd get a day off between game 1 and game 2, and assuming they took the day off, that gave them even a greater advantage. It really is a change getting a ton of respect in the national media from a mere few years ago.

His old partner Francesa was absolutely gushing today about what a great WS matchup Yankees/Phillies would be. Loves the Phillies team. But who doesn't.

I wish I were cooler than I am, but all this "when" they clinch the divison and "when" they win the pennant is getting a little obnoxiously Yankee-fan like. First of all, we certainly don't want to turn into them, and in any event, it's still tempting fate. I do appreciate what the Phils have done, and how the odds are in their favor, but still...

It's not tempting fate. The Phillies currently have a 96.7% chance of making the playoffs.

Also, this is not the site for BS superstitions. We have a thread counting down the magic number for christ's sake.

Countdown of magic # is not the same as assuming the countdown is over, the playoffs are over, and the only qurestion is who won the AL and which Roy starts game 1 of the WS, which is the attitude of some around here. They are welcome to it, of course, I just find it presumptuous.

It's called confidence, bro.

Jimmy started it in 07 when he more or less said "Fuck the NL East. We got this shit" Then they went and won it. And then again. And then again.

Saying stuff like "IF they win" is just wussy talk from people worried that somehow their words will affect the outcome. I know it's hard to get away from that because it was necessary for the OLD Phillies. But these are the new Phillies.

This man speaks the truth

I plan to tell my grandkids how fucking spectacular these teams were and how they oozed confidence, not how I spent my time worried they might blow a lead in the division.

Only problem is you went from "Sell everyone, this team sucks", to "no way we don't win the World Series". I mean, Oswalt was a SAFECO deal, but to say he's that big of a difference maker is the definition of hyperbole.

The Phillies are awesome right now and I like our chances, but there is a chance we don't win the WS.

There are two reasons why you would want to refrain from saying what I did: 1) You believe you have some sort of potential to jinx the team or 2) By telling yourself that the Phillies haven't clinched anything yet, you will feel better if they do blow the division/playoff spot entirely.

I don't think what I write here has a whole lot of an impact on the field, and I know I'll be utterly devastated if this team falls apart whether or not I insert qualifiers into every post I make about them, so I might as well be a c0cky SOB and enjoy where we are.

Just saw on Phils pregame--Halladay slipped at home today and will likely miss the rest of the season (knee).
