Chooch is like the best catcher in the NL, innit he?

There was some study, done by some website (specifics!) that had an extensive ranking of catchers and Chooch scored relatively well. I think top 10?

Chooch has been really impressive. I'd point out though, that the Phillies have the least amount of walks by far in the National League (majors too, maybe? I'm not sure). The control of the pitching staff might also have an effect on those numbers. Or maybe it just shows that Chooch is also super awesome at framing pitches and coaxing the staff to throw the ball over the plate.

I was thinking that the quality of the pitching staff would certainly effect this type of thing. It hasn't helped Schneider much though (1 PB/8WP in 1/3 of the innings Chooch has caught).

Several Phils pitchers have some nasty stuff and of course, Lidge's out pitch is the slider in the dirt.

Just guessing but I think Chooch might be top of the league in preventing WP and PBs. If he's not the best I'd guess he's amongst 'em.

Fun stuff to think about and discuss because you can't prove it either way.

Chooch is so cute:

Tuesday's game was much more defining, because the two guys many will point to as the most critical for a deep October run continued to come through.

Cole Hamels dominated the Marlins to move to 4-1 with a 0.76 ERA in his past five starts and further re-establish himself as the brilliant lefty many envisioned before a rough 2009.

Then, Brad Lidge -- who struggled in a not-so-telling mop-up-like session Wednesday -- made his first appearance since Sept. 6 and showed that his bothersome elbow isn't currently an issue while converting his 12th save in 13 chances and moving his ERA to 0.52 since the start of August.

Last season, the Phillies reached the Fall Classic without a dominant Hamels and Lidge. This year, there should be no stopping them if those two keep rolling.

"When those guys are on, and if we can score some runs," Ruiz said, "we can have some good times."

Well Polanco never walks and when you replace Utley and Rollins with Valdez and Castro, this is probably what happens.
