Yep, the Phillies have played just one game since 2004 in which they were already eliminated.

i think this is my favorite so far of the wave of these kind of posts over the past couple of days.

Seven if you count the division "clincher" last year since the Braves lost first. And what a hilarious loss, too. A runner was picked off third to end the game, I think.

Of course, they played that game like it did matter.

As I was driving in this morning listening to Mike and Mike, Greenberg was talking about Hamels last night said about the Phillies" "Who's beating them?"

Our historic pitching rotation has elevated us to the top of the league. I'm almost in disbelief this is happening.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Phils should clinch with enough time to set their rotation.

This. I still have the memory of scoffing at many of our residents in July when we were 7 back and many were saying that we were done for the season, including pulling out stats about how the braves weren't going to play just .500 ball and we weren't going to play .700 ball and blah blah blah blah blah. By the same token, it would take only a couple days for this thing to be tied again. Lets keep winning and save the chicken counting the next win after we see Whitey (solo) in the fear thread.

You know, I taped - yes, taped - his start against the Dodgers in the NLCS last year because I had to miss most of it, and i've never sat down and watched it. Even though they lost, it's a treasure just for Pedro's performance.

I'm basically over it, but I must admit I sometimes think of Pedro when Kendrick has to start...

Wasn't the end of the Braves game within minutes of the end of the Phillies game that night? I remember flipping back and forth.

Charlie bringing in Lidge to close that game is without a doubt one of my favorite things he's ever done. Such an awesome gesture.

We're 25 games over .500 on the season.

We're 23 games over .500 since July 22nd.

Ain't no chickens being counted. I'm not one to get ahead of myself, and I'm sure as shit not one of the chicken shits who was giving up on the season two months ago.

I'm not celebrating anything. I'm just pointing out how close this thing is. How, if the Phils keep playing the way they are, this thing is just within their reach. And, as part of that, there's no excuse now. This is the Phils' to win, so they better win it.

I vote we skip the first half next year and just have two second halves.

So this 38-15 stretch is a 116 win pace, which makes that 2001 Mariners team even more mindblowing
