He's done an "outstanding'' job and "puts guys in position to succeed,'' one scout said

So RastaBot informs me that Jamie was removed from the 40-man on Sept. 6. Does that mean he's done for the season, and probably his career? And being off the 40-man- he can't even sit on the bench, right? (Unless he's on the 60 day DL, I think, but I don't remember seeing that that happened)

He DAHoF- regarding MLB not scheduling a game in Philly on July 4, 1976: I seem to remember the Vet being used for some event that day/week. Was it the termination point of the Bicentennial "Wagon Train" maybe?

I chuckled quietly to myself:

Dennis (LA): If you were the Angels, which free agent outfielder would you target this winter, Carl Crawford or Jayson Werth?

Jay Jaffe: Crawford, because he's three years younger and doesn't wear the pelt of a dead animal on his face
Teams lie, sometimes for good reasons, sometimes for bad. They do it to get an advantage while they look at the trade market or just because they can

Happ with Houston:

9 G, 52 2/3 IP, ~5 2/3 IP/start, 3.08 ERA, Opponents' OPS .611, BABIP .250, 43 K, 23 BB, 5 wins, 4 losses

Pretty good, right?

Oswalt with the Phils:

9 G, 63 2/3 IP, ~7 IP/start, 1.98 ERA, Opponents' OPS .570, BABIP .222, 54 K, 17 BB, 6 wins, 1 loss

The BABIP is unsustainably low for both, but Happ has it worse because his K/BB ratio ain't as good.

In today's Inky, Manuel was quoted as saying that Exxon may be the Phillies MVP this season. I think that is very nice, and also very crazy.

JFLY was all about mocking people for saying Cole was unlucky last year and at the start of this season. He hasn't been saying that too much recently that I've seen anyhow.

No one can really have a 1.98 ERA because it's not actually possible to have peripherals that support a 1.98 ERA, so really it's a mistake when you see it in the stats pages and it's really more like a 3.40 ERA
I know what you're asking yourself and the answer is yes. I have a nick name for my penis. Its called the Octagon, but I also nick named my testes - my left one is James Westfall and my right one is Doctor Kenneth Noisewater.

Dubee said there's a "good chance" Oswalt goes Friday, setting the big three up for Atlanta next week. He and the reporters then had a big laugh about babip

Not so. My point was always that there were other contributing factors (in addition to luck) to Hamels' off year last year. Similarly, there are other contributing factors this year to his better performance.
