That's an interesting question. Same goes for the Red Sox. I wonder how much difference it makes to TV viewership?

EDIT: this made more sense before you edited your post.

Who actually decides that?

Yeah I don't get it at all. Any AL team would sell out here, and the Sox could help a market like Pittsburgh much more than, say, the Royals could. And it's certainly not fair to the Phillies or Red Sox in terms of how good they've been in recent years

Good points, all. Besides, we all get it, it's been established, for now and forever: the Phillies can't beat the Red Sox in this or any other universe. I'm sick to death of them and their white guys with beards and Youkilis and their gay-ass fans. If I never, ever, ever see another Red Sox game, it will be too fuck-ing soon.

I loved it in 2004. They were a cool team to see live and their fans liked Bob Abreu etc. But jesus christ, enough already

Giants/A's really is a pretty good one though, even without the location connection. They were rivals even back to the Philly/NY days.

Zolecki writes that the top NL team this year can choose between an eight-day or seven-day NLDS, and that the former means the Phils could just use the Roys and Chole

Not to mention that in 2003 I was at the Vet to see a Todd Pratt walkoff in extras because of the Sawx. Pedro got a no-decision in that one against Wolfy.

http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/PHI/PHI200306210.shtml

And the next day, I also saw a young Brett Myers sucker punch the Sawx to the tune of 3 hits and zero runs over nine.

Good times.

That being said, I'd love for the Phils to not have to play one of the top teams in the AL every damn year.[/url]

It is certainly a lack of work ethic and conditioning (STRETCHING!) that led to the multiple leg muscle injuries. There is absolutely no way that the first injury wasn't completely healed before returning to the lineup leading to another pull. And Jimmy certainly wasn't compensating for the gimpy calf leading to a tweaked hammy. And Bob Cunningham must have a degree in sports medicine to so accurately diagnose this from a distance. We should all thank him for this wonderful insight.

Thank you Bob, eat a dick.

Bob Cunningham's bloated feelings of self-importance wrote:I don't get to be on fly on the wall of the Phillies' clubhouse, but I'm betting it's something well-known and accepted around the team; Jimmy just doesn't like the weight room.

The fact that "dehydration" was listed as a cause of the injury doesn't help. Is there anything easier to avoid? Just drink some water. He's sitting on the bench for how long while the Phillies are batting and there's no possible way he's just too busy to have a cup of water.

He admits he has no idea what goes on in the clubhouse, then asserts Jimmy avoids the weight room and that this is well-known among the players. Then references the fact that dehydration added to the latest problem but ignores Cholly's statement that Jimmy was sick (and missed BP because of it). The fact that this shit is considered a sporting news site fills me with a blinding fury.

Edit: At least the comments are ripping the guy apart, and in a more civil tone than I would be capable of right now.

i dont know what the truth is in this but my source has mentioned that the phillies might sell the organization to some huge corporation for some huge amount of money. apparently it has been offered to them.

i know that is so vague but that is all i know.

im serious. it is in all these minor leauge talks. the phils might be willing to create a whole new team that would be a member of the carolina league who is looking to expand. but it has been mentioned that there has been some big offer to buy them in these meetings too as they talk about what team to move where yada yada.

Huh. I could see Betz and the Buck boys being willing to cash out, but I get the sense from Middleton - already a billionaire - that he would like to be MORE involved, not less. Is the offer from him to buy out his partners mewonders?

Well, the obvious answer is "Comcast" then. Not sure, if it's them, if that is good or bad. If it's someone else, then I am really not sure. At least Comcast will want to keep ratings up, which means they will probably continue to underwrite a big payroll, even if it means taking a loss, as they undoubtedly do with the Sixers. Might even help the Phillies establish their own cable channel so they can really play with the big boys (although I suppose if they were owned by Comcast, having a "Phillies" chanel would be redundant, since Comcast also runs CSN).

If this is true, I wonder what the offer is. Any item is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it.... would love to know what the Phillies are "worth" to some corporation right now.

in about a week there will be some actual coverage about the stadium in west chester since the town needs the phillies to make it public in hopes of getting the state money they need to help make this project happen. maybe some of that stuff will come out then?
