that is nuts. they are going year-to-year with every play except Adrian Gonzalez, whom they just exercised his 2011 option for $5.5M

phils are also within $5 mil of the yankees, and if the season started now, we would have the highest payroll
Tm # Pyrl Est
NYY 10 $141.6 $157.3
PHI 17 $142.2 $152.5

Shin-Soo Choo was on the Korean team that won gold at the Asian games, so he should be exempt from military service now. If they didn't win, he would've had to give up two years of MLB to serve...

Did Chan Ho get exempted at some point as well? He must have. Normally the Koreans don't play when it comes to their Universal Military Service stuff.

I wonder if this was a reason behind #6org trading him? It actually never took all that much for the Ms to make a bad trade.

BB/9 innings should also include HBP. Sure, it doesn't make that big a difference for most pitchers, but it's still free passes issued due to control issues (or is it command?). And since it's the most commonly used shorthand for this quality, it would be a little more accurate without a lot of work needed. You'd have to come up with another name for it, though.

Does it count for OBP? It certainly should.

As Barry notes, it does. This actually reminds me of one of my baseball-related pet peeves. The fact that the traditional stats for pitchers and batters are completely different never made any sense; what's good for a batter is bad for a pitcher, and vice versa. So why not use the same stats? I know that BA Allowed and so forth are sometimes used to describe pitchers, but why were these not used in the first place?
