Murphy had a good line about him being our highest paid pitcher this year, despite the presence of the World Series MVP and two former Cy Youngs in our rotation.

Wait, I thought Lidge and Myers made more than Eaton.

He actually said starter, but I think you're right that Myers makes more.

Whatever, it was still a funny line by Murph.

Since the draft topic was closed, I'll mention here that the Blue Jays signed their first-round pick Chad Jenkins...

Magglio Ordonez's contract:

2010 option guaranteed at $18M if Ordonez has:

* 135 starts or 540 PAs in 2009, or
* 270 starts or 1,080 PAs in 2008-09

Currently at 996. I can't imagine they'd let him get to that, but that's not that many PA left for a guy who still starts fairly regularly and is hitting better in the second half.

Rube would sign them at slot, and they would like it.

So what happens if the deadline comes and Strasburg doesn't sign? Nats are screwed? Can anyone sign him then, or does he have to wait until next year's draft?

he goes back into next year's draft. nats get the second overall pick. he's crazy if he doesn't sign.

The Nats would have the 1st and 2nd picks and they would need Strasburg's permission to draft him again.

At what point does baseball look at all the Boras clients refusing to sign and fix this system? This is not the NFL's pay structure issue. The MLB's draft is broken. These high school kids should not be causing a classist structure in baseball. Poor teams should have a better chance than rich teams at improving.
no offense but you are everything that's wrong with America

At what point does Aaron Crow just become a free agent? I know he'd go back into the draft again next year if he doesn't sign

Here come the Yankees over-slot signings:

-- Heathcott signed for $2.2M (double the slot)
-- JR Murphy signed for $1.25M (almost 3x the $478K slot)
-- Caleb Cotham signed for $675K (over 4x the $149,400 slot)
-- Bryan Mitchell (16th round) gets $800K

Also Butch Hobson's son KC signed with Toronto for $500K (4x the $150K max)
