I'm not sure what to think of this. I guess he's probably just retiring he is 65 and what better way to go out.

From Lauber

Charlie had no comment regarding rumors that Anthony "Black Tony" Stracci and Emilio Barzini were being "replaced."

According to reports, it appears that Trevor Hoffman and the Padres have had acrimonious negotiations. Looks like Trevor may be done with the Pads.

His era+ was only 101 this year, but his peripherals look pretty damn good. The issue was his increased HR rate. He actually K'd slightly more than 1/inning.

File this under whimsical, impossible, what the fuck are you smoking, but imagine if he was willing to move to a set-up role. He'd be a fairly cheap addition (I imagine 4-7 mil on a one year deal) and would set us up with one of the greatest bullpens I've ever seen. If you're going to add (or not) a LF'er on the cheap, but are still willing to spend money to make an impact, that's a way to do it without spending or committing too much. Completely far fetched and something I wouldn't do, but it's midnight and I miss baseball.

ELI's MLB Rumors:
White Sox outfielder Jermaine Dye has been placed on the trade block, according to the NY Daily News. Dye had a great year hitting .292 with 34 homeruns and 96 RBI in 154 games this season. Dye will make 11.5 million dollars in 2009, with a mutual option for 12 million dollars in 2010. Dye should draw a lot of interest considering he is still productive and relatively cheap. Expect the Phillies, Mets, and Cardinals to pursue Dye, which would allow them to save their money from spending it on an outfielder to spending it on a pitcher.

At this point, it is hard to see any deal getting done. Teams are working hard to sign their players and will be very aggressive over the next couple of weeks to sign up some of the big time names. Expect a deal, if any, to be worked out during the Winter Meetings, when GM's have a better idea of what they are working with.

We have, like, no farm system at this point. Burrell is my preferred choice for left (based on the dollars he'd command). Bradley is my second (cheaper yet). Ramirez my third (totally awesome, obviously, but prohibitively expensive).

With LA putting a $60M chip on the table, $45M guaranteed, the bidding is actually a little lower then I expected for Manny. I saw some comment that Boras shrugged it off looking for that 6 year deal, which would have to be north of $90M.

What's the LA deal? 2/45 with a 15M option on a third year?

Citing a source close to the negotiations, the Times reported that Ramirez would earn $15 million next season, $22.5 million in 2010 and the same in 2011 if the team exercised its option. The final year can be bought out for $7.5 million.

Strange as it is to call a contract worth that much money "lowball," that does eem like a lowball offer. I would have absolutely no worries, even if it were my own money, about offering him 3/$75M. Would anyone top that? Could that make Manny a Phillies?

Low ball is a little tongue and cheek as it is always in the focus of the Boras lens. I assume that Manny has been told that he will get a $100M guaranteed deal to finish out his career with a 6 year demand that can stay the same for 4 years.
