PHILLIES GOT BRAD LIDGE!!!!!

Bruntlett looks like he can at the very least draw a walk or two, and he has better speed than Nunez.

Yes. He's the guy I've wanted in the OF all along. I think a Jenkins/Werth platoon would do quite well in RF.

I'd be fine with that. I think platoons are a good solutions to position issues and they generally improve the bench. Jenkins, if healthy and relatively cheap, would probably be a good left handed part of a platoon, posting an OPS in the mid-800's against RHP.

ARod makes teams worse. Everyone knows that the Yankees were failures.

A lot of people were skeptical about the Garcia trade, actually. I knod of liked it, to be honest, but I porbably wouldn't trade Gio Gonzalez (let alone him plus Gavin Floyd) for what we just gave up for Lidge.

I was high on Gio as well and was sad to see him go. However, the more I read, the more it seems he'll be a #4/5 instead of a #2/3. While he has a ++ breaking pitch, his fastball is only 85-87 MPH and many scouts do not think that will hold up well. If Garcia would have performed at his career level it would have been a good deal, but we know how that turned out.

If he's solely the backup middle IF and Utley and Rollins each play about 160 games, he won't be getting too many ABs. If he's Moyer's 3B caddy, then he'll play a lot more. Can this guy play 3B remotely well? He's only got 33 innings in his career there.

Anyway, do people really think Myers is pissed off, like Stark seemed to imply? I had a feeling Myers was kinda feeding the company line when he said the bullpen is where he wanted to be.

I don't know. I think he kind of liked all the attention and having his own music and stuff. Maybe not pissed, but I bet he'll be pretty bummed.

I don't think Myers will be pissed. Although, we shouldn't ASSUME that Myers will in fact be moved back to the rotation until someone confirms it...

He said several times that he didn't want to constantly move from one to the other and back, then once he got used to being in the bullpen he liked it...

I don't really think this means he won't be in the bullpen still.

I'm glad some of you like this trade, because I don't. Brad Lidge makes me uncomfortable. He was very good and lost the closer job. He allows a lot of homers. I have a feeling that people will feel about him how they felt about Gordon this season. Lidge will be a lot more expensive than the guys they traded and is a free agent at the end of the year.

Brunlett is arbitration eligible. With his production I'd non-tender the guy. Does Gillick really want to go to arbitration with him?

Geary isn't a loss. I felt he was a non-tender. Bourn was pretty much the Phillies only Major League tradeable asset. I don't mind dealing him but I think they could have gotten more. The guy came on before his injury and he's been mentioned as being coveted.

I'm probably the only one who thought Costanzo would be a player. He's improved every year and really lit it up in the second half of the season. Even if the Phillies didn't like his defense he was pretty much their other tradeable asset. What do they have left to deal? Why do the Phillies always give away quality minor leaguers but never get any?

Ed Wade saved money and got three guys he drafted. I have a hard time believing he got the better of Pat, because if Wade is really smarter than Gillick it's pretty hopeless.
