Interesting trade. As long as Lidge performs at the level he did last year or any year except for 2006 for that matter, he should be an effective closer. This moves Myers back to the rotation, so I assume they are done chasing a starter, which might not be a bad thing in this market. Unless they get Snell or Bedard in a trade, which I think was unlikely all along, then there isn't much left.
I would guess this moves them closer to resigning Rowand. I would also assume that the "no thirdbaseman" talk is a ruse and there will be a new face here soon. It could be Crede. It could be Tejada. They traded the only guy in the system that a legit shot to play the position in the near future. They absolutely need to add somebody at that spot.
Bruntlett is nothing special, but he would have been the best backup 2B/SS on the market.

-- Myers will be pissed about moving back to the rotation because he loved being a closer
