What do Philly folks consider Central NJ?

I’d say from where 78 comes into NJ from PA on the west to Elizabeth in the East with 195 the southern border. I’ve always considered Newark to be North Jersey but Woodbridge to be central so the line is somewhere in there so I kinda picked Elizabeth as the line arbitrarily.

although i'd probably put elizabeth in North, even though somerset is central and has a northern peak about the same. but somerset is much bigger and has a much farther southern reach than elizabeth.

The bottom third of Ocean County (LBI and points west) I think are South Jersey. Otherwise I guess the Department of Transportation does an OK job there.

yeah, that too, and along with my other gripe above, i don't think delineating it by county is the right way to do it

Right? Which is strange because they gave the southern tip of Warren county (rightfully) to central Jersey, all of ocean is definitely not south Jersey, but I agree with the rest.

Though I grew up in central Jersey (Monmouth county), I always considered it part of north Jersey. The two obvious ways to divide the state, especially back before area codes exploded were whether you had a 201 or a 609 area code, or if your TV stations came from NY or Philly. I never thought for instance that Mercer county was in the same part of NJ that I was in. The addition of 908 may have given central NJ more of an identity.

On the other hand, the Raritan River seemed to be a dividing line. Going north over the Driscoll bridge on the Parkway, things seemed more urban. Of course much of North Jersey is suburbarn and even rural--especially in those days. Morrris county for example. So, the other thing I think sort of defines my region of NJ is that it's the Shore. This again would explain why as far as we were concerned Mercer county, and even Middlesex county were in another part of the state. Monmouth and Ocean counties have always been connected in this way.

I guess it's from growing up in the Lehigh Valley but for me it's a swath from Edison down towards Trenton.

will also say that Rutgers/New Brunswick seems like probably a better end for central jersey. Central jersey just feels more like that urban outflow of NYC.

went back home to validate, and sho'nuff the newer view is there.

go to 'Atria Lafayette Hill' and see if it looks like a construction zone (brown dirt everywhere) or lush green pastures-ish (the way it was prior to construction)

If you click on the globe in the bottom right corner it gives you the newer 3-d view, click it again and it goes back to the older flat view. Is that what you're talking about?
