South Korea reinfections were false positives caused by RNA residue. So that's good news...except it would indicate that whenever we start testing, e.g. athletes the day before a game, there may be some healthy ones who test positive but will have to quarantine because it won't be obvious that it's false.

“The tests detected the ribonucleic acid of the dead virus,” said Oh, a Seoul National University hospital doctor, at a press conference Thursday held at the National Medical Center.

He went on to explain that in PCR tests, or polymerase chain reaction tests, used for COVID-19 diagnosis, genetic materials of the virus amplify during testing, whether it is from a live virus or just from fragments of dead virus cells that can take months to clear from recovered patients.

Three weeks ago, a good friend of mine who is a F15 pilot in the USAF sent me a note about what the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds were going to do.

I told him that it would be a much better decision to ground both groups until COVID was over, take the savings on fuel and spare parts, and purchase additional PPE for just about any group in the country (it's actually not that easy because of arcane military accounting rules).

He agreed, and then said the Air Force leadership was going to continue their long stretch of stupid decision-making. So here we are.

So fucking stupid.

Saw some modeling that isn't complete garbage, just partial garbage, but identifies the national peak between 1-15 June.

Mexico is a complete mess. Estimates are well over 100K cases, but there is almost no testing and medical care is, uh, suspect.

The US still hasn't tested 2% of the population. Having a lot of production/manufacturing issues with re-agents required for the test.

If Quest is really only going to charge $150 to get my blood tested for antibodies, I will be doing that (free with a dr. Prescription).
On a scale of 1 to Chris Brown, how pissed is he?

As time went on I thought all the places reporting numbers would consolidate. Seems like the discrepancies are growing.

I have no real issue with the Thunderbirds and Blue Angels flyover. Except the people who didn't social distance viewing them, of course.

I think it was the WHO. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/arti ... al-FT.html

A US pharmaceutical company is disputing reports that its experimental antiviral drug failed to help patients patients with severe cases of the novel coronavirus.

On Thursday, the World Health Organization (WHO) prematurely posted a draft summary of a trial of the drug remdesivir, made by California-based Gilead Sciences.

Originally developed as a treatment for Ebola, the medication has been shown to fight against coronaviruses such as severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), which is a cousin of the new virus.

Early results from a study in China found that remdesivir neither improved the conditions of coronavirus patients nor reduced the virus' presence in their bloodstreams.

However, the drugmaker said the draft document contained 'inappropriate characterizations' and called the study's findings 'inconclusive.'

I mean who the hell knows what to trust out of China

But the NIAID study, which was not expected to be released so soon, was by far the most important and rigorously designed test of remdesivir in Covid-19. The study compared remdesivir to placebo in 800 patients, with neither patients nor physicians knowing who got the drug instead of a placebo, meaning that unconscious biases will not affect the conclusions.

Also, China's study was a mess

The China study enrolled patients with more severe Covid-19 than the study conducted by NIAID. The China study was also stopped early because of difficulties enrolling patients as the pandemic waned in China.
