Mentioned in another thread that I hosted a webinar for higher ed and 70 instructors signed up. I asked if they had any insight into what their schools’ fall semester. Nothing new: they all said nothing official but were told to prepare for everything being online

I'd be surprised if I'm back in my office before January. The problem is, logistics and fairness to the students and families require a decision by 6/1. And it will most likely still be a situation of erring on the side of safety.

I was hoping this would end up getting reported. My uncle had to self-quarantine because he had direct contact with McCreary at Arbour Square after the bomb threat. Thankfully he wasn't infected.

I wonder how hard it was to factor into the model -- if it got factored in at all -- how badly nursing homes got hammered in PA. I think close to 60% of the deaths are in those environments

There is a rehab center in Broomall where 28 people died and something like 107 of the ~130 people there tested positive.

Yes, and the virus is obviously going to be a massive killer in those environments. It'll spread because of close quarters and among the most vulnerable population. That probably destroyed the modeling

So all the new cases/deaths now are from nursing homes, hospitals and essential workers?

A tin hat, this is not even as bad as the flu guy's son posted on Facebook to pray for his dad because he has all the symptoms of COVID. Just got in a Facebook argument with the dad last week about it too.

ya know, virginia just may be the measuring stick for an alternate outcome had we locked things down much earlier. their original chart had them back to zero mid-july or somewhere around there, since they were well behind everyone else with spread. but now it's pretty much on par with everyone else- around may 20. And the total death projection is 648. I'll have to go back and look at the data from the end of march, but i'm assuming their original projection was much much higher. their restrictions pretty much line up with the same dates as PA.

I think thats a lot of states. Arkansas hasnt locked down as much as others, but we locked down a lot and around the same time as ny and nj did. And so far, we are still in 2 digits for death, though about 3000 cases. Lots of negative tests though. Keep in mind, this is a fat and old state. A substantial number of our positives have been from prisons--an issue that seems to be getting more attention here than elsewhere. I assume lots of prisons are going to have lots and lots of positives.

It’s highly contagious and causes exponential infection? Who knew?

Yeah, the prison system is getting killed too. That's why some are letting some of the prisoners out. In Montco we just had 182 new cases. 119 of them were inmates

Probably not a great idea to let out people who've tested positive though. At least for 14 days.

The number of new cases in the US is still relatively modest today, if higher than yesterday, especially considering that I assume testing is becoming more widespread and some places are still accounting for cases over the weekend. No good news on deaths, though, which are back up well over 2000 and will cross the 60k mark tomorrow, when it seems like just yesterday we we were at 50k.

New cases in South america are about equal to those in Asia now, with Peru , Ecuador and Chile all heavily affected . Brazil still lags behind in per capita but with so few tests reported it will be a long time before we know how heavily they actually are affected. Even with the lags in reporting, they're still 11th in total cases and 8th in deaths reproted, passing China today and ahead of Iran shortly.

Deaths will lag new cases by a couple of weeks.

Yes, just reading the scorecard and responding to my own post from about 3 pages ago that everyone else has forgotten about or never read anyway.

A guy I worked with Baltimore County for a few months a couple years ago and was FB friends with died from Covid-19 over the weekend at 43 years old... he was a good guy, coached youth in the city... helped a lot of kids... I don't know about underlying health issues but he was a big dude... probably close to 400 lbs... Posted like a week to two weeks ago from the hospital that he had it and it wasn't a joke... they said he was stable and I guess it went south quickly... just made me madder at all the 'this is exaggerated' crowd smh

This has the ring of truth to me. Some doctors believe the virus is attacking the endothelium. It would explain a lot of strange symptoms, as well as death rates among those with certain previous conditions.

I'm hoping we're in our lag phase because we (my county) recorded our biggest day yesterday, all the curve would be flat and trending down.
