The B1G Piece wrote:I can't make anything of the data. Using COVID tracker, here are the April trends.

- Average daily testing increase - 3.9%; average daily tests - 147,086
- Average daily positive increase - 1.1%; average daily positive tests - 29,030
- Average daily positive rate of new tests - 20.0%

The five days with the highest decreases in positive tests in April were either a weekend or a Monday. Outliers on the other end are Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Since Thursday, we had five days in a row where new positive tests were less than the previous week, but that trend stopped yesterday.

Maybe, if the virus was here in January / February, there is a little herd immunity, but with testing remaining relatively flat, I am not sure if we can draw any conclusions beyond this feels like we're watching Sisyphus on loop.

My wife's cousin was supposed to get married next month in Miami. Obviously, she cancelled it, but last week just reset it for October. Not sure why she did it that close

I'd still like to get to Greece at the end of summer so I can visit with Grandparents who are 95 and 93, but that's a hell of a risk. Also I don't want a computer chip in my wrist

The main thing I've learned from this is how much crazy people like the phrase "We the People". Really no limit to how it's used. We the People!
Two days later I get a text back that says I'm a basketball player and a businessman, not a Thundercat.

good points here--> click

Basically, most cases are mild, death rates were overestimated and there is a clearly defined at-risk group.

the writer is a guy who thinks our current healthcare system is amazing and regularly writes against any reform in conservative outlets (including The Hill, the place you linked to)

he's pretty clearly creating his conclusion before looking at anything

Just to nitpick, but wouldn't it be more accurate to say that positive cases were underestimated. The death rates were based on known/knowable cases?

Also, if the amount of asymptomatic cases are higher than we've thought, than opening up without good testing/tracing leads to a bigger risk of flooding our health system.

I don't know how we can protect the vulnerable population without proper testing.

the opinion piece; i wouldn't call it an article

i don't claim to know warszawa's motivations, just saying that the writer of the piece is not to be trusted on much of anything

his ideal healthcare world is where we'd all have high-deductible catastrophic plans

Sounds like it's an article to say 'it's just the flu' without actually saying it. Fatality rate is close to 6% for known positive cases.
