The appointment of new Treasury watchdog to monitor lending to corps is a big improvement on 08 (in theory). That being said once the Treasury lends the money, leverage to shape Corp behavior goes away

I have a feeling Elizabeth Warren will have no problem finding a job in the Biden administration should he win.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/business ... -trillion/

I don't know if this article is behind the paywall or included in the free coronavirus coverage. Bullet points of the agreement:

1. $1200 checks to "many Americans"
2. $367 billion loan program for small businesses
3. $500 billion lending fund for industries, cities, and states (already noted the protections against this helping Trump, White House officials, or members of Congress)
4. $150 billion for state/local stimulus funds
5. $130 billion for hospitals
6. Expansion of unemployment benefits

The bill sucks, I wonder if there was pressure from the President from making the checks recurring since he wants to act like this issue will be over with in no time. I guess the hope/rationale is that the one time check and the expanded UC benefits will be enough for "normal" Americans to stay afloat and pay for shelter, food, and utilities. I don't necessarily buy it.

The bill also carved out $17 billion in federal loans for businesses "critical to maintaining national security" which is to bail out Boeing. So good to see business as usual on the Hill.

anything on healthcare? pretty sure healthcare for the unemployed sucks ass and is expensive. is the 600 just goign to get eaten up on the xchange?

also, 'loans' for small businesses is #$!&@. profiting off of people trying to keep a job and pay some employees is as bogus as student loan interest

I’m seeing 150B for hospitals and HC providers for equipment and supplies

50B of the 500B fund is for airlines

Am I correct that everyone who earned under 75k now receives the same amount instead of a lesser amount for lower earners? That was a big step to me.

It's going to one of those "lets make shit up" kind of mornings.

@realDonaldTrump
Just reported that the United States has done far more “testing” than any other nation, by far! In fact, over an eight day span, the United States now does more testing than what South Korea (which has been a very successful tester) does over an eight week span. Great job!

“Drafting errors” aside, by DC standards this is a pretty good bill, particularly increasing unemployment insurance and extending it to gig workers. It’s also good that the $1200 checks phase out by $100K and that there are now oversight and watchdog provisions on the Fed bailout fund along with stock buyback restrictions and that small business loans will be forgiven if a business keeps its workers employed.

Anyone who thought there would be more for workers and less for big business with a Republican Senate and President was just being wildly unrealistic. Politics is the science of the half loaf and the Dem leadership did well to get what they did and to limit corporate socialism at least a bit. If they’d held out much longer they would have risked hurting the vulnerable even more by inaction.

and their solution is to give other people less so it evens out

it's a pretty ingenious scam that has happened for generations to try to get low wage workers and those on the bottom mad at each other

it's at once both hilarious and infuriating when mindless people defend benefits to the rich and corporations by saying something like "has a 'poor' guy even given you a job?"

In a new Gallup poll, 49% approve of the job Trump is doing as president while 45% disapprove, matching the highest his approval rating has ever been in Gallup surveys. A Monmouth University poll released on Monday showed Trump at 46% approval, again the best he has done in that poll in more than three years.

In the Gallup poll, 60% of Americans approve of the job Trump is doing in handling the crisis while 38% disapprove of how he has done. Six in 10 independents approve of how Trump has done on the coronavirus as do more than 1 in 4 (27%) of Democrats. In the Monmouth poll, 50% say Trump has done a good job with coronavirus while 45% said he has done a bad job.

You'd have to be blind, deaf or both to approve of the job Trump is doing on COVID-19. We are only in THIS spot because him and his cronies were dismissive of the threat from the beginning.

Anybody get his stupid postcard in the mail yet? "President Trump's Coronavirus Guidelines for American". Are you fucking kidding me?
