I thought most smart New Yorkers didn't really like Cuomo. Is this the Elizabeth Warren effect where large swaths of people across the country liked her but she couldn't even win Massachusetts? I guess if dajafi were around he'd be able to speak more to this.

I can never wrap my head around why legislation is so verbose. I guess it must be legal definitions and protections (aka, why my click through ULA is a dozen pages that started as two dozen bullets). The emergency coronavirus bill is 880 pages long.

I think it's because he's such a contrast not only with Trump but also DeBlasio.

DeBlasio has had to be dragged kicking and screaming into a bunch of the more responsible shutdown/social distancing efforts, and was offering buffoonish advice/doing dumb shit long past when it was clear things needed to happen to change behavior. Cuomo has been sober and straightforward, seems like he's in charge and knows what he's doing, unlike the clowns above and below him.

Right. But this somehow hurts Democrats to have a state Democrat showing competency in crisis? I feel like if Cuomo was showing less competence, then that would also be spun into a perception of hurting national democrats.

"Look how crazy NY state is, and look how bad the outbreak is. It's clear that the Trump comments are suboptimal but fine nationally, and the virus is bad only in states where Democrats are leading. Do we really want Democrats in the White House when they mismanaged NY into a national crisis?"

That's fair. The calmness and straight forwardness is very good from him.

i still don't know what the 1200 is for. no ones going to go and spend money.

can anyone tell me how insurance works for the unemployed? do you have to go to the marketplace and get a plan? so the 1200 is just gonna go to the health insurance system?! i can get a free plan with a 16k deductible and like 20k oop?

so we're gonna give people full wages basically(extra 600 a week for unemployment) but burden then with the added cost of standard employer backed health insurance for a few hundred(500-1000?) extra a month?

Nah, a tanked economy + dead bodies piling up in the streets this spring ensure that won’t happen. Biden will crush Trump in the swing states.

Italy is past the peak with 7,500 deaths in 74,386 cases. US is at just over 1,000 with over 75,000.

Prediction: there will not be more than 50,000 corona related fatalities in the US. Maybe much fewer.

Prediction: Trump will win re-election with more votes than Biden in popular vote as the economy is humming in its rapid recovery from this due to pent up demand, and then the immediate coming of the Xmas shopping season as November reopens. PA, WI, MI, all to Trump.

We are going to lead the pack with cases by the end of tomorrow.

And Fauci has warned that odds are there are two waves of this as cases start to pop up across Africa.

Both of your predictions are based on the assumption that the Italian numbers are accurate. Here is the reality:

Are you a Bernie diehard?

Granted, I do think Trump was heading for re-election, especially if he was facing off against Bernie. However, it would take an absolute best case scenario, like the one you painted, to give Trump a shot at re-election.

Also, there is no chance Biden, the boy from Scranton who made good, loses PA. He is beloved here.

I don't think anything going on changes many people's minds. It will be about turnout and Democrats following thru with a vote for the generic democrat they wanted. If more than 75% of Bernie supporters show up to vote for Joe that would help too.

It’s going to be hard for Joe to bring out Bernie supporters. Not even Bernie could do that.
