Not at any restaurant I worked at. If we fell below 12% or so, we would get called in and asked about it. If you are just getting 12% in Philly, you are probably a lousy waiter, so the managers want to know why it is 12%. My claimed tips were usually 18-20%, which does not count the money I gave to bartenders or buspeople.

The % varies based on the restaurant and part of the country. People from the south are lousy tippers in general.

MB you're the exception not the rule.

People from the Northeast always think their experience is the only reality.

I just know that servers who worked in the south didn't like it because the tips were bad. California, too, from what I understand. It's probably more that people in the northeast tip exceptionally well on average. But I did say in general to show that I recognized that everyone isn't like that. It's more what the local expectations are.

But I agree about people thinking their experience is reality. That's human nature, but it's a negative aspect of our nature. I'm guilty of it times, probably including this time.

Stimulus passed. Be sure to carve out time to help you, your parents, friends, etc understand it and what they need to do to receive what is theirs.

They have an agreement. When I saw it over night they hadn't finished writing it. Here's hoping nobody objects to the language or wants to draw attention to themselves or their agenda.

On quick glance it appears the Senate will vote after noon.

He's signing it. Not because I believe they said he will but because he almost has to sign it.

I don’t think the senate could stop the state lockdowns anyway, could they?

Only glanced at what's been reported. Certainly looks like an improvement in places but I'm sure most of us will think it falls short.

With my low expectations and the speed of agreement (by Senate standards) I'll be okay with it if details reported are accurate.

I don't know if this article is behind the paywall or included in the free coronavirus coverage. Bullet points of the agreement:

1. $1200 checks to "many Americans"
2. $367 billion loan program for small businesses
3. $500 billion lending fund for industries, cities, and states (already noted the protections against this helping Trump, White House officials, or members of Congress)
4. $150 billion for state/local stimulus funds
5. $130 billion for hospitals
6. Expansion of unemployment benefits

The bill sucks, I wonder if there was pressure from the President from making the checks recurring since he wants to act like this issue will be over with in no time. I guess the hope/rationale is that the one time check and the expanded UC benefits will be enough for "normal" Americans to stay afloat and pay for shelter, food, and utilities. I don't necessarily buy it.

The bill also carved out $17 billion in federal loans for businesses "critical to maintaining national security" which is to bail out Boeing. So good to see business as usual on the Hill.

I dunno--my understanding is the expanded unemployment benefits of (up to?) $600 a week on top of existing unemployment is pretty huge. I think it will not only help people who become unemployed, but it also reduces the fear of many people whose jobs are at risk. I do wish the money to states/localities was bigger. And of course, giving lower income people smaller checks sucks.

Well this shouldn't happen in the senate because Rand Paul is in quarantine.

it's pretty obviously a crap bill and the major benefactor will be the unchecked 4.25 trillion gift to Wall Street investors

anything on healthcare? pretty sure healthcare for the unemployed sucks ass and is expensive. is the 600 just goign to get eaten up on the xchange?

also, 'loans' for small businesses is bullshit. profiting off of people trying to keep a job and pay some employees is as bogus as student loan interest

The appointment of new Treasury watchdog to monitor lending to corps is a big improvement on 08 (in theory). That being said once the Treasury lends the money, leverage to shape Corp behavior goes away
