I went from not expecting any Coronabucks to now expecting to get the full amount.
Another reason why the house version makes much more sense. $1,500 for everyone now. Pay it back in some fashion if you make more than 75k up to 100k or whatever in 2020.

And I hope you, and others like you, consider donating a good portion if you don't need it. It would somewhat allay my concerns about my future status but not fully I guess. I'd probably just save it in case I do lose it at some point.

Whatever, give everyone money imo.

Agreed, recoup it in taxes later from those who aren't necessarily hurting, maybe add some temporary tax break if you can show that you donated up to the dispersed amount to a COVID/humanitarian charity within a reasonable time frame.

Hayek wrote:“Our hopes of avoiding the fate which threatens must...[be to make]adjustments that will be needed if we are to recover and surpass our former standards...and only if every one of us is ready to individually obey the necessities of readjustment shall we be able to get through a difficult period as free men who can choose their own way of life. Let a uniform minimum be secured to everybody by all means; but let us admit at the same time that with this assurance of a basic minimum all claims for a privileged security for particular classes must lapse....”

Interesting thoughts from the 1940s from a libertarian. Makes clear the contrast between social safety nets (good things) and maintaining "privileged security" in the form of corporate safety nets (not so good). I hadn't remembered Hayek saying favorable/neutral things about safety nets before.

Assuming I get it, I’ll probably hold onto it for now. I’ve told my dad that if he needs money during this to let me know since I’m still getting paid (he had to close his restaurant) and I’m a little concerned about what might happen to my industry in the next few months.

Once we come out of the other side of this, I’ll probably donate some and spend the rest at the local small businesses down the street from me to help them out.

Interesting that you equate purging voter rolls with helping people vote. And reversing pollution standards with things like giving workers rights. That's pretty telling.

No idea if they are underreporting their tips, but the specificity of the $90 number makes me think she's talking about just their wages paid by the restaurant. 40 hours times $2.25/hr or whatever it is now is pretty much exactly $90.

Servers generally do report most of their tips. If they fall below a certain % based on the restaurant you work at, you or the restaurant may come under scrutiny. I always reported 100% because it help me in the long run. Most others did the same or close to the same. I'm talking about people working at it full-time.

It’s not equivalency. It’s an example.

And the fact that you focused on that and not the substance of my concern is telling.

In PA, anyway, I believe that when you file for UC, income is reported by the employer, based on "taxable income." If it's going un-taxed(basically under the table), they won't be able to draw UC against it.

Yes they are underreporting tips. After each shift you are supposed to type it into whatever POS system you use before you clock out. Some systems won’t allow you to put zero, but others will and that’s what most servers do unfortunately

It's an example that equates the two. Imagining republicans doing those things is not the same as imagining dems doing the things they are doing because the GOP examples are anti-democratic and anti-environmental while what the dems are doing is good for democracy and the average worker.

Yes, but most restaurants require servers to claim their tips. The last few restaurants I worked we had to claim tips on a nightly basis. We did our paperwork at the end of the night, tipped the bartenders and buspeople, and claimed our tips. So it's not under the table or untaxed. Generally speaking, the $2.25/hr I received from the restaurant paid my taxes. Sometimes I would owe a little extra at the end of the year and sometimes I got a little back.
