More likely, if you parse out Mueller's statement, there are just some details wrong and the general idea is correct. I guess we'll have to wait and see, assuming Barr allows us to ever see anything.

Speaking of Barr, I think he'll expose the Trump stuff, but will likely cover for all the nasty GOP stuff that went along with it, which will allow the GOP to compartmentalize this into a Trump problem, rather than a rot within the GOP as a whole.

The key part of the buzzfeed story was that the law enforcement had independent verification. If at the end of the day all they have is Cohen saying that Trump told him to lie it's not going to be enough to impeach and remove. The story is the verification.

On the other hand, Mueller has not denied previous damning reports and won't deny future ones. Tossing a yellow card here gives more cred to everything else.
