Nominee for Attorney General William Barr told the Senate Judiciary Committee this morning that he "can conceive of situations where, as a last resort," journalists could be prosecuted for “putting out stuff that is hurting the country.”

This was in response to Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., who, using the murder of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi as an example, asked Barr whether he thought the Justice Department should prosecute journalists "for doing their jobs."

Talk about a false equivalence. I think we can all agree that being prosecuted for contempt and being brutally murdered, dismembered and dissolved in acid are two very different things.

I'm guessing the shorthand summary of Klobuchar's question left much to be desired because as described it doesn't make any sense.

Yeah, I am going to want to listen to/read the entirety of her comments at some point.

Gillibrand announces her exploratory committee less than 3 months after pledging to serve her full 6 year Senate term.

I sometimes feel like Dems should offer Medicare for All in exchange for wall funding. If he goes for it, they can loudly say they know it won’t work, it will fail at what it is supppsed to do, and is a stupid expensive boondoggle for which Republicans should forever be held accountable, but, they can say, it was the only way to end the shutdown and at least they got Medicare for all out of it. It would also remove it as a fucking talking point for whining Trumpeters for forever and maybe take a little wind out of their sails going forward since the babies will have their goddamned bottle already. And if you do it right you can use it as a cudgel every time the hardly-affected-at-all illegal immigration numbers come up: look you fucking morons it didn’t do a goddamn thing.
