Just to be wrong, I think there will be 2 today and 2 tomorrow. The water use case and Janus today, NIFLA and travel ban tomorrow. Not a great end of the year for liberals with these court decisions.

At least the Wisconsin gerrymandering case wasn't dismissed out right, but the Texas gerrymandering case was a bit deflating.

it won't be a great 20 years for liberals with court decisions

why is mass incarceration increasing in the suburbs? probably because of DAs like the one in Lancaster Co:
Although the rate of major crime was down 32 percent in the county from 2006-15, “I don’t feel like our crimes our down,” he said. The number of cases he’s filed increased 26 percent in the past decade.

If Janus is the first case today, that is the expected bad news (based on my predictions of Florida/Georgia and Janus)

I believe it depends on how strongly the dissenter feels on the particular issue. For example, Breyer read from his dissent in Ohio v. AMEX yesterday because he was an antitrust professor so his interest was strong.

I didn't read the opinion, not sure if I will since it's long, but I wonder if they addressed the tweet at length.. could go a long way when determining outcomes of other cases like tariffs where his tweets betray his actual authority

Given that the list was narrowed to countries that Obama had designated "most dangerous," this ruling isn't an outrage.

Every sentient being knows it began with Trump's bigotry, but the final result is defensible.

I would have preferred to see it fail, just to administer a slapdown to Agent Orange. But on the outrage scale where caged babies is a 10, this is about a 3.

The next president is going to be very busy undoing Trump's damage.

are they, though? Depending on who it is, how they get elected, and how we react to decisions like these, things get cemented. the collective consciousness of our nation likes to move on and forget. stuff like this may get put by the wayside if margins are tight for fear of being pegged as divisive. perhaps there won't be prosecutions if people in this administration broke the law, for fear of being accused to being partisan or anti-democratic (where I actually think the most democratic thing would be holding people to those principles).

i don't know, but we can't take it as a guarantee that the next presidency and Congress is going to actually undo everything.
