jerseyhoya is right-- just because people here listen to pod save america doesnt mean he had a shot

pretty insightful this amiercan life episode this week. they follow around one candidate for ny 19. a good and depressing look into DCCC machine. reminds me of paul perry's lamentations with the running for office problems he encountered.

It's pretty important that the Dems have a credible candidate in 2020.

Trump has poisoned the GOP for what should be generations; the Dems could wiss it all away in 4 years with a weak candidate or an extreme leftist.

Joe Biden - age 50 or 60 - would be just great. No Bernie, no Hillary, no Jimmy Carter types.

There's a nice list of the Top 15 on WaPo. From that list, I like Kamala Harris best.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the ... -ranked-2/

I don't think any anti-Trump heroes like Adam Schiff, Ted Lieu, or Eric Swalwell will emerge as contenders, but I'd vote for any of them.

McCaskill has a broken rib from Manchin

(she was choking at Senate lunch and he performed the Heimlich maneuver)

i mostly really like her

if she comes out and has a speech on the AG stuff she'll be fine. she is supporting lots of good economic and social justice stuff

but, it's too far out

the NY primaries will be interesting tomorrow.

NY14- A progressive, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, is challenging Joe Crowley, who is one of the small few who is line to take over party leadership if the dems should take back the house in the fall. She is my political crush right now. Don't know if she has a real chance against a ten term incumbent, but we will see.

NY19- As mentioned above-- 7 people on the D side. Three "money" guys who raised over 1 million and four others. The winner will face John Faso. If the Ds hope to take back the house, this is one of the seats that is a must win.

NY 11- Former Rep. Grimm facing off against the incumbent, Dan Donovan. Grimm was convicted of federal election crimes about 4 years ago, when he was in congress. Grimm may very well win. More criminals for the Rs in congress. Exciting.

some other interesting ones here laid out by Vox:

NY-19 - sure would be cool to pick someone who lives there and has a history there; i have no idea who that would be, though. i guess we'll find out.

having Ocasio-Cortez win would be good if only for truer representation of that area

If Grimm wins the primary I think that's a Dem pickup in the fall.

Some local help needed for an anti-trafficking bill---

Pennsylvania friends: Safe Harbor SB554 provides victim services to sex-trafficked children and teens in Pennsylvania. One man stands in the way-- House Majority Chair Rep. Mike Turzai. Please call his offices TORDAY requesting he bring SB554 Safe Harbor to the House floor for a vote.

Harrisburg (717) 772-9943
District Office (412) 369-2230

The bill began 4 years ago. Three years in the Senate getting parties to find agreement. Senate votes 50-0. One year it sat in House committee, but eventually discussed and passed unanimously. Only a few days are left in the bill's 4 year life span to discuss on the House floor and pass. One reading completed. Five days left for final reading or the bill dies this Friday, June 29.

The Governor ready to sign this protection of children into law.

yeah that is what he is doing. he is trash.

sb554 was already voted on in the senate. so you would be asking them to vote on the senate approved bill not whatever garbage he is pushing.

Saw this last week and was pretty confused. He had no shot of winning the nomination.

I disagree. He has high name recognition, is young, is hustling, and this was all while not campaigning to become President. I don't know if he could capture the Obama 2008 magic, but I wouldn't have counted him out.

Don't think a person less than 40 years old would be elected President at this point. Still too many old people voting that would not vote for him because of his age.

After Trump, it would be nice to have a candidate who speaks with, um, candor.
