"I read today about a 10-year-old girl with Down syndrome who was taken from her mother," Zac Petkanas, who formerly served as the rapid response director for Hillary Clinton's campaign, said during an appearance on Fox News opposite Lewandowski.

Lewandowski interrupted, mockingly interjecting, "womp womp."

Seems inoffensive to sensibility and civility. No vote on it because of same I assume. There must be some standing water that you can’t do anything by Pardison. Can’t even get any of the dissenters in the GOP to sign-on? That’s a shame for shit right there

Speaking as someone who has, this is a really complex issue. It’s a really dicey issue in DC with a hard split between people who work at the high-end places and people who work at the more meager places. If you’re a server and a high-end place you can really clear some coin. If you’re working at the local fake diner, your take-home is far less. There are people in food service who are on both sides of this issue. I think Hoya as local perspective is completely valid. I mean the difference between your take-home at Ben’s chili bowl, and minibar by José Andrés is a huge divide. I don’t know what the hospital is at Ben’s where you flip 68 tables in a chef, but I’m pretty sure with the 10 to 15 You pull with Jose, you’re sitting on a real solid 3 to 500 bucks easy in a shift.

I have actually

And if you think this is a simple question, maybe ask yourself why an election that is 90% Democrat in turnout is only 55% yes for this initiative? Post editorialized against it and the Dem mayor is opposed as is the Dem city council. It is a horrendous idea, poorly thought out in this initiative. Hopefully the Council spikes it.

Wait staff is already guaranteed minimum wage of $12.50 if tips don't get them to $12.50. This will require restaurants to pay tipped employees minimum wage BEFORE tips, which is going to completely fuck restaurants which already operate on tight margins.

Glad we're confronting him on minimum wage and not the war crimes and human rights violations his party has championed for the entirety of my adult life.

and JH, you should be doing something to help get your party under control. They are getting away with this because republicans have bought the lies and descent into madness. The only way this turns around is if rank and file republicans turn on their keepers. Be a part of the solution.**edited by pacino - no insults, thanks**

Don't think it should matter what they end up with in tips. They're not independent contractors serving the restaurant's food. They have other required responsibilities the business otherwise has to pay someone minimum wage or more to perform. This is abused in many places where the waitstaff performs hours of work before and after they have customers to wait on.

Some of the complexity, and this is not a secret, is that the wait staff in expensive restaurants make more, generally much more, then the back of the house staff. There are people who learn to cook, and are clearly key to the experience, making significantly less then the front of the house staff. Yes 'tipping out' is a thing, but it is disproportionate. I paid for a good part of my education working in restaurants, and I moved from the line to the floor for two reasons: 1) most important was the money, and 2) the quality of interested members of the opposite sex that were attracted after midnight to a guy who smelled like deep flyer were suspect. the money, however, was clearly the most important.

So balancing that equation between team members is more important IMHO. The bill does not get there.

I mean, I don't want to get too into the weeds of running a business (since I would be even more out of my league than normal), but if they're required to cover the gap already, shouldn't they be budgeting the worst case scenario to be safe? Or are the margins so tight that they roll the dice and hope their staff is tipped well enough to cover their own assess?

I do like the that policy as opposed to the normal fuck you to wait staff, but I still don't think anyone should feel beholden to tips to make/guarantee a living.
