they'll release it 2 days before they vote on it. it's a way to bat away any criticism of it.

That taxes were massively higher on the rich back in the gold old days many Republicans pine for seems like something that should be talked about more

Philly is set to have a school board once again. Voting to dissolve the state control reformed commission soon and the city will take control mid-next year.

PA GOP mailer for judge race says to "vote for judges who share our value sand salute for the flag":
Ceisler, who served with the Army’s 75th Ranger Regiment in Afghanistan in 2016 and was awarded a Bronze Star, listed off the different familial connections between the Democratic judicial slate and the military, including Supreme Court candidate Judge Dwayne Woodruff’s Marine Officer son, and Superior Court candidate Judge Maria McLaughlin’s Army Veteran husband.

“By using a Googled image of a soldier saluting a flag beneath the words “Vote For the Judges Who Stand For Our Flag,” the Republican Judicial Slate has deliberately chosen to demean the sacrifice of the Democratic Judges who have shared their children, parents, and spouses with us,” Ceisler said.

Mailers of this nature are usually sent to voters who are likely to support the Republican candidates and are likely to be pushed to the polls by the message.

As election day gets closer for the judicial elections, campaigns and parties will begin to push stories against the opponents that stay on message, but will generate earned media to engage voters and increase the profile of the races.

Update: PA GOP Chairman Val DiGiorgio went on the offensive against the Democratic candidates, mainly Woodruff.

“It’s now crystal clear that this isn’t your father’s Democrat Party. If there is an outrage here, it is the sad reality that Supreme Court candidate Woodruff and the Democrat machine will not stand against those who dishonor our flag and national anthem,” DiGiorgio said in a statement.

“No one questions the right of NFL players to exercise their free speech. We do, however, question their judgment, along with that of Supreme Court candidate Dwayne Woodruff. Our Republican judicial candidates stand to honor Americans of all races and ethnicities who put their lives on the lines everyday to protect our country.”

“We already know that Dwayne Woodruff lacks the courage to buck the far left wing of his party when it comes to the misguided and disrespectful act of highly paid athletes. We call on all Pennsylvanians to reject liberal judge candidates who will not defend our flag,” DiGiorgio concluded.

Woodruff played for the Steelers when they won their Super Bowls, if you didn't already know that.

Clovis' withdraw is being blamed on THE SWAMP. The toxic politics of WDC targeting "you" as blood sport makes it untenable to move forward. You = DJT one assumes. So, summary, its the ghost of Obama. political corpse of Clinton, the Chuck & Nancy show, and Frederica Smith Wilson that are keeping him down as reported continuously by Fake News.

Tax plan: File on a post card, and big money back in our pockets. $1,182 back to $59K earners. That is your cellphone plan people (laugh line from the speaker). Of course the WH once upon a time said $4K/year. This is for people living paycheck to paycheck, and business owners who pay themselves last (typical pass through LLC structure, amiright).

Eliminate SALT (bad), and eliminate AMT (good if it trips your tax planning).

Kristi Noems tells her sob story about needing to take out a loan to afford the death tax on her family farm when her father tragically passed while she was in college. That warning is in contract to the fact that no farm has failed due to the estate tax. That said, the farm also managed to take in $3.7M in farm subsidies from 1995 to 2016 from the government, Mantat estimates an annual revenue of $2,000,000 with a staff of approximately 8, and her husband sells crop insurance showing that farming is not a terrible life if you know how to play all the games.

yes, and I have no idea why it's not, except that dems do not want to go around talking about raising taxes. R's have spent decades drilling home the idea that dems tax and spend and now dems are in a cage.

Also, many of these interest groups control both parties at this point. The financial industry has the country by the balls.

Please correct me if I am reading this wrong but the Tax Bill sets the brackets as follows (for joint filers):

12% = $0 to $90,000
25% = $90,001 to $260,000
35% = $260,001 to $1,000,000
39.6% = >$1,000,001

So that a couple filing jointly with total taxable income of $130,000 would incur an income tax of $20,800. Currently, that same couple would incur an income tax of $29,382. So, the total savings is $8,582.

What about a couple with total taxable income of $60,000? With the new brackets, the tax due would be $7,200; under the current law, the tax due would be $10,739. So, the total savings is $3,539.

In other words, the rich get richer. Obviously very simplistic examples but is maybe some food for thought.

The Fed chair pick doesn't seem like a loon at least. Put another way, there was one perceived loon in the running and he didn't get it (nor did Taylor rule inventor who had pure economic backgrd)

interesting tidbit in a piece I read:
Cons: Powell’s continuity might not be as appealing as a bigger Fed overhaul for the Trump administration. Powell “appears to largely support” the 2010 Dodd-Frank Act that increased regulations in the financial industry, which conflicts with plans by this administration on scaling back rules, Capital Economics Chief U.S. Economist Paul Ashworth wrote in a report.

It was a con as far as the likelihood of Trump picking him. While we probably disagree on things, this isn't a crazy pick at all.

a Bloomberg primer on him

new proposal also eliminates deductions for medical expenses. I wonder if this should alter my HSA decision making.

Isn't that just if your medical expenses are more than 7.5% of your AGI?
