He did write that book though.

Phillies were bidding against themselves. Amaro knew, likely due to Gillick, and played his hand accordingly.

Salisbury:

Wednesday night, sources close to the negotiations said the Jays wanted minor-league outfielder Anthony Gose as well.

Happ, Brown and Gose for Halladay. Let's do it.

At around 3:30pm Friday, Ricciardi will don a bikini and do Carla's bikini dance in the streets of downtown Toronto, exclaiming "Look at me! Look at me! Why isn't anyone looking at me?"

wonder if we'll ever know whether we could have had halladay for drabek+ without giving up happ, brown, or taylor.

that would have been better than the lee trade. not hugely better, but better.

No, it wouldn't have been better. We know Happ plus what was traded for Lee wouldn't bring Halladay. Drabek plus the Lee deal is way too much. Happ plus the Lee deal was too much.
We now know that Amaro really is running the Phillies. He and Monty seem to have ignored the committee.

i disagree. i suppose i value halladay more than you do.
i think highly of lee, but i think much more highly of halladay. i know that there isn't much difference between the two over the last couple of years, but comparing the rest of their careers makes me much more confident in halladay's success going forward. to me the difference is worth drabek, or whichever one of drabek/happ/brown/taylor is most valuable, added to the lee deal. its not worth any two of the big four added to the deal.

Per Rosenthal, Riccardi told the Dodgers they don't have to include Kershaw or Billingsley in a package for Doc.

Yeah. That is sort of the downfall in striking first but Amaro was unwilling to risk coming away completely emptyhanded. I do think there is a segment of the population which will change their view of the Lee trade if the Dodgers get Halladay. I won't though. Amaro made a spectacular trade yesterday.

What's stopping us from trading for Halladay at a lower price, and then just trading him again in the offseason? (Assuming we can't afford him next year) Can we trade a guy that quickly?
