If only. If I ran the Phillies, I'd still be pushing hard on something like this, to see if I could still land Halladay, if only because:

Rollins
Vic
Utley
Howard
Ibanez
Werth
Feliz
Ruiz

Francisco
Dobbs
Stairs
Bruntlett
Bako

Halladay
Hamels
Lee
Blanton
Moyer

Lidge
Madson
Romero
Myers
Pedro
Park
Eyre

is pretty much unstoppable. It might just scare the other teams into forfeiting altogether.

I read that. Doesn't make sense, except that Coletti is a moron.

I know, right? I came without touching myself when I wrote it.

I'd love to see the Phillies go totally cutthroat right now and go for it. Happ/Brown/Whoever.

EDIT: It reminds me of something Bill Parcells used to say. The Giants had a chance to draft Reggie White in the USFL dispersal draft before the Eagles got him. He used to lament the fact that they hadn't, and opined often: "Can you imagine if we had had Lawrence Taylor and Reggie White on the same defense? They would have had to make defense illegal." (I'm sure I've butchered the exact quotation somewhat, but that was the gist of it).

Well, starting pitching might have to be made against the rules if the Phillies could put together a rotation of Halladay/Hamels/Lee. if I'm Rube right now, I'm looking at myself in a mirror, jerking off, and thinking about that top three over and over and over again.

I have no idea if Riccardi is going to trade Halladay but he'd still be an idiot not to do so. This shouldn't even hurt his bargaining power. Riccardi now has the only ace on the market with multiple bidders. That is better than having one of two aces on the market with multiple bidders. This helps Riccardi's position if anything, and he would be an idiot not to trade Halladay. Pick up salary and you get more prospects, he should still do it.

I mean, I know it's not going to happen and I shouldn't get ridiculously greedy thinking about an impossibility anyway, but... if you're Rube... and you're already so smug... and you've just gotten Cliff Lee for magic beans plus Knapp... don't you have to be thinking about it? You could pretty much own the NL for 2009 and 2010, still have Drabek and Taylor if the Blue Jays are willing to deal (I would not include Drabek now for anyone), and... I mean, you would be the toast of baseball, right? That's a slam dunk executive of the year award. Slam dunk.

Like I said, if I'm Rube, i'm gazing into my own beautiful eyes in the mirror right now with my pants around my ankles, beating it like there is no tomorrow, all to the tune of "Halladay Hamels Lee" in my head.

Oh my God.

you cant afford both. even trading Blanton this winter won't be enough to offset it. If Moyer retires, then maybe. But I dont think they could do it financially.

And thats fine. This was amazing. We keep our 3 blue chips and get an ace.

Oh, I know it's just a pipe dream, but... what a pipe dream.

If you move Vic (which I would have to think they are seriously considering anyway given the fact that they've kept Taylor) and move Blanton (also quite doable) or hell even Lee after this season, I think they actually could do it money-wise.

But it's all utter nonsense, I realize. It's just neat to think of the Phillies actually being in a position where they could think about just loading both barrels and daring anyone to try to take what is theirs.

Clausewitz spent remarkably little time at war. Died at the age of 51 from cholera. Spent about five year of his life at war.

Assuming they hang on to Halladay, I took great satisfaction in watching Toronto lose today. Have fun in 4th for the next two seasons and getting less than fair value for Roy in the end, fools.

If they trade Victorino or Werth (in addition to Blanton) to open up a spot for Taylor, they could save more than enough.

Just sayin'.

Ruben calls Ricciardi:

Ruben: We want to make a deal.
Ricciardi: Ruben, I've told you several times, you have to give us Brown and Kyle Dra...
Ruben: No, no. I'd like to acquire Jason Frasor. :-D

He did write that book though.
Teams lie, sometimes for good reasons, sometimes for bad. They do it to get an advantage while they look at the trade market or just because they can

We weren't interested in a serious relationship with Halladay but we can still be friends...
