Rocketmail was pretty bad about filtering out profane user names, my friend secured some of the more hilarious ones.

Writer from Toronto has the Phillies behind the Angels and Yankees as far as aquiring Halladay. Says the Blue Jays don't like the prospects the Phillies are WILLING to give up. My guess is Ruben is low balling on purpose because he doesn't have enough scratch ($$$ this year) to get him.

The Phillies are paying Jenkins 6.5 mill, Eaton, 9.15 mill, Thome 4.5 mill all to not play on the team. If I am the ownership of this team I would not be happy about 20 mill of a 130 mill budget going to 3 players who are not playing for them. Then add in Myers 12 mill for a few starts since he is hurt and this team is essentally playing with as 98 mill payroll.

MLB on XM was reporting this morning that Toronto's preferred Halladay package was one that included Vernon Wells. If they're desperate to unload Wells, Toronto might be inclined to take lesser players to get out from underneath his contract. They speculated that this could open up the field to teams like Texas and the Dodgers, who expect to see significant payroll drops over the next two years.

No one is taking on Vernon Wells' contract. Unmovable.

Today, I have officially come to terms with the fact that Halladay will not be a phillies... I think everyone needs to come to this realization sooner rather than later, it will save a lot of false hope and unbridled enthusiasm.

All signs point to no, not enough prospects willing to part with, not enough payroll this year, no way we are taking vernon wells.... so it was fun, but this is really just another manny thread minus ilovekruk.

MLB is currently giving the Texas Rangers money to operate since their owner is bankrupt. If they take on a contract of any kind, it will be funded by the league, and therefore a complete abomination.

looks like the Toronto version of Randy Miller.

No quotes, no real sources.

I think this is a desperate ploy by the Toronto to get other teams to step up. Good luck with that

I know the idea that signing Pedro makes it less likely that they'll go after Halladay is out there, but maybe it makes it more likely.

Assume that most of what people are "reporting" and writing about this is either fantasy, or leaks designed to throw people off.

Furthermore, assume that part of the Phillies problem is a lack of depth in the rotation, they are making this deal in order to win now, and all of that which makes parting with Happ to acquire Halladay not such a great move, especially if you have to sacrifice two or more top prospects to make it happen.

But if you've got Pedro, Happ becomes less valuable for the Phils. Essentially, from the Phils perspective you are getting Pedro and Halladay for Happ plus some good prospects. That, in my opinion, is pretty awesome, especially if you're focusing on winning in 2009.

See, I can make up shit at least as intelligent as Randy, without leaving the comfort of Mom's basement.

I think the "Pedro makes Happ more expendable" thing has been most our first hunch on here. Not sure how likely it is, since they had a hole in the rotation, anyway
