Breathtaking, really.

At the age of 25 I hadn't done anything in MLB either. There is hope for me too!
Yes son. I'm the best mono-thingy guy there ever was.

There are people here who don't seem to want to part with Happ for Halladay

I think its people who dont want to trade Happ + 3 elite prospects.

Mets fans honestly think Big Pelf plus some A ball prospect is too much. Big difference

Ive seen one or two posts that Drabek could be as good, but that's because he's still an unknown at this point

Yes, but unlike you, Roy Halladay was an American League All Star

A source told the Boston Globe that the Jays won't allow teams a window to negotiate an extension with Roy Halladay if a deal is struck.
It's been assumed all along that they wouldn't. Halladay, who had no-trade protection, said he thinks it's essentially 50-50 whether he'll be dealt. He reportedly has not made a list of teams to which he'd accept a deal, though he did tell ESPN radio Philadelphia on Monday that the Phillies "fit the bill" of the team he'd consider.

That's stupid. If we can't afford him this year, we can't afford him next year either. Didn't Floppy do the approximate math on this?

What's unknown is whether or not signing Martinez would prevent the Phillies from exploring trade talks for Toronto Blue Jays ace Roy Halladay, who will start for the American League in tonight's All-Star Game.
Since Halladay was put on the block last week, there's been a lot of talk about whether the Phillies would be willing to package Double-A pitcher Kyle Drabek and three or four other top prospects to lure Halladay. Management, however, might not be able to get to that point - because, according to a team source, Halladay's contract is an issue.
The Phillies probably could take on the $15.75 million Halladay will make in 2010 - the final year of his three-year, $40 million deal - because injured No. 2 starter Brett Myers will be a free agent after the season and isn't expected to be re-signed.

But, believe it or not, paying Halladay $4.75 million for the final two months of his 2009 contract ($14.25 million) could be a stumbling block because the Phillies' payroll already has surpassed $130 million, a franchise record.
The Phillies, desperate for a right-handed bat to come off the bench, were in the running for infielder Mark DeRosa before he was traded from Cleveland to St. Louis on June 27.
The team source said if DeRosa had been traded to the Phillies, the club wouldn't be able to afford adding a starting pitcher, too, because it would be paying DeRosa $2.75 million, half of his 2009 contract.
A week later, the Phillies tried and failed again to land a right-handed bat when outfielder Scott Hairston was traded from San Diego to Oakland, the team source said.

that is insane - they are practically printing money down there this season. get er done.

I take this all with a pretty big grain of salt. Miller's credibility is an issue, but also it might be a situation where ownership was saying $135M is the absolute cap, and then Pedro and Roy Halladay became viable/available, and for players like those, they are willing to change their tune. Whatever.

The reason I don't want to see Happ go for Halladay is because while there is no doubt that Halladay instead of Happ makes the team better, Happ and Halladay are better still. I'd prefer to let an extra prospect go. But I understand why Toronto might not want to do that.

I recall Wade and Gillick both stating they haven't put insurance on a player in years...since the premiums for such policies skyrocketed in the early 00s. I'd highly doubt the Phils were covered on Myers.

If it's true, it doesn't make sense that Miller is emphasizing this year only. Floppy's breakdown shows they'll probably have even less next year to cover his salary. There's something really weird about the way Miller is talking about this

The Phillies leaked this info so that they can make a deal with less attention on them and to throw other teams off the track. BOOK IT. HALLADAY IS A FILIS.

If they were over budget they wouldn't be looking at Pedro or attempted to trade for DeRosa. Other sources had reported the exact opposite. Stark has mentioned that they have enough to sign Pedro and go after Halladay.

How awesome would it be if there was one guy within the organization whose sole job was to leak Randy Miller false information
