I don't think Lidge thanking Jesus means he's Mormon, otherwise there'd be an odd number of black Mormons

Utley's shy, too! Hook it up, Rube!

I just hope Halladay doesn't ask Rolen or Barajas about Philadelphia.

FWIW, Halladay is a Colorado guy as is Lidge. They're the same age and probably played against each other in high school, so they have that going for them, which is nice.

Unless they hated each other in high school.

edit: yessssss

Halladay is married and has two children. He and his wife are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Didn't Lidge thank Jesus upon winning the World Series?

God, he's a mormon? Maybe we could get Reid on the recruiting trail

I'm not worried as much if the Phillies are offering enough to please Ricciardi but if they have enough to beat out the other teams.

That being said anyone want to float out some newspaper headlines for when we get him?

And if we get him before the break what team/league would he be pitching for?

MLBTR.com
One source told Ed Price of MLB Fanhouse that "the Phillies are leaders at this point" in the Roy Halladay sweepstakes. However, that doesn't mean the Jays ace will be dealt. As another source points out, J.P. Ricciardi is not in a hurry to trade Halladay, so there's an equal chance he stays in Toronto.

And the haul Halladay could bring? The Erik Bedard trade (Adam Jones, George Sherrill and others) and the Dan Haren trade (Carlos Gonzalez, Brett Anderson and others) could be benchmarks.

I think the Phillies have a great chance at getting him if he is actually dealt. that's the question. I don't know if he will even be dealt. I think Riccardi might just not trade him at all

I think unless his higher ups tell him to dump salary now, he will hold onto him until the winter or next year's deadline, unless he is blown away with a package.

Halladay's value as a trade chip goes down significantly if Toronto waits to trade him next year. My guess is that he is dealt.

Then use Carrasco, Taylor & Marson to get Cliff Lee.

I don't know if it's possible, but am I the only one who would do what it took to get Halladay without giving up Happ? Getting Halladay is a right-now move that becomes more lateral than it otherwise would be if you are forced to give up Happ. A rotation of:

Hamels
Halladay
Blanton
Happ
Moyer/Whoever

is better than anything else the Phils are likely to be able to put together at this point. If, to get Halladay, you need to lose Happ, and replace him with Lopez or Pedro or whatever B-lister you can find, and move Moyer up to the four position, that's significantly less good IMHO. Not that Happ is the solution to all our problems, but he's a more-than-servicable number 4 I think. Relying on Moyer in that spot... scares me, to say the least.

At any rate, getting Halladay by giving up something off the ML roster doesn't really make sense. If you're finishing off the roster to win now, then you want to make this an all-propsects deal. I'd do Taylor, Kendrick, Donald, and, if I had to, Carrasco too, before I'd offer Happ. Maybe it's just me, but I don't really believe the latter will ever amount to much, as another poster has said.
